Hello CC! I wanted to get some insight into the MPulse MT program. I plan on auditioning this year, as an upcoming senior, and was wondering if any one could tell me anything about the auditions, what they prepared, and if you attended what you thought of the program. I attended CMU pre-college mt last summer so i was wondering what you all thought of the program! Thanks!

Hi Thisismegan!

I can reply on behalf of my D who attended last year. She absolutely loved it. It was very hard work, with the most talented kids she had ever seen. She made some wonderful friends and learned a lot!

She auditioned in AA, and found both Mr. Wagner and the accompanist incredibly nice…it was not stressful in any way. She prepared exactly what the website suggested…both a 16 bar cut and a monologue. The waiting for results was much more stressful!

Good Luck!

Hello. For those who have applied, how long did it take from UM’s receipt of application materials to hear back from them regarding audition? Do they have a limited number of students who receive audition slots?

Just got an answer to my own question – dd heard that she’s passed the audition screening. MPulse received materials 1/4…a two-day turnaround was pretty durn fast. She will receive a time slot 1-2 weeks before the audition. Who else will be going?

I will be submiting my application this tuesday. Am i not going to get an audition slot since im very close to the deadline?

Hi thisismegan:

In order to get a spot to audition in person:

*Your application must be received by the deadline (jan 25).

*Your application must be complete.

*Your GPA must be 3.0 or higher as stated on the website, in order to be given the chance to audition.

*There must still be spots available on the audition day (February 20).

If the first 3 above are in order, my guess is there will still be spots available for auditioning in person. Though that is just a guess. However, if you are concerned, you might call them and ask if there are still spots available. If there are not, you could still submit a recorded audition.

Good luck!

Oh I deffinately meet all the requirements It just took a bit of time to get the transcript from my school because of the work being done with current seniors. Thanks so much for that information though!

Sorry to double post, but, i did get an audition time!!! I am very excited that at least ive made it this far :)

Kiddo auditioned on campus today, and was very impressed by Mr. Wagner and the whole experience. Enjoyed exploring north campus, talking to some of the kids there. She was asked to sing both of her songs, but said she got stopped in her monologue for time…with 2 words left! Hoping that wasn’t a problem!

They were told that there are currently 195 applicants for this summer. Now the waiting begins! Anyone know if it’s by letter or email that the kids hear? Have they ever sent the notifications sooner than their March 30 date?

Hi Mommafrog-

My D attended MPulse last summer, and last was notified by regular mail. the notification came a little bit earlier than the stated (April 30 last year), maybe 2 or 3 days. My D had exchanged email/FB with some of the kids in line with her for the audition last year. they all lived all over the country. The midwest/east coast kids got letters the first day, and by day three they got to the West coast. A few kids came off the waitlist about a week later. My D started a FB group for those who attended, early on, so they all “knew” each other before they even arrived!

Good Luck to your kiddo!

Does anyone know when they will send out the acceptance/rejection letters for MPulse? I also was accepted into the OCU summer MT program, so I am anxious to know if I am going to make a choice or not about which one to attend. Also, do the people who decide who gets accepted let in more live auditions than dvd auditions? I live in Oregon, so it was impossible for me to audition on campus, and I am nervous about that.

Oh, and mommafrog, were those 195 applicants just for live auditions, or was that number for video auditions as well?

Hi KSwag10-

The MPulse website says that people will be notified of acceptance by March 30. Last year, my daughter found out a few days prior to the official date they posted. I just asked my D, she said that of the kids who attended last year, there were about the same amount who auditioned in person as by tape. We know 2 kids who attended before my daughter, and both of them auditioned by tape.

Im very anxious as well. I got lots of positive feedback but Mr. Wagner seems so encouraging that hes probably positive to everyone! I was wondering what everyones monologue experience was like? Did he look up at you very often? I dont want to read into anything too much but im just curious :)

KSwag…think the 195 were both live and video, and from daughter’s counting of the list of in-person auditions, looks like it’s about half and half. (As an aside, she attended the OCU program last summer and LOVED it…). Thiisismegan – kiddo said that during her monologue he was writing like CRAZY…she did a comedic one, and usually gets a chuckle or two…she said he was so busy scribbling, that he was pretty well occupied by that. Know what you mean about trying not to read too much into his responses…

Yes, he was writing furiously when i was done, i tried not to pay attention while doing the monologue. Well, atleast i know it was not just me. (mine was also comedic and does get a few laughs as well)

My D just received her acceptance email today. Needless to say she is ecstatic. She auditioned by tape and we were all anxious about it, but I guess it’s true that there is no real advantage or disadvantage in auditioning that way. Best of luck to all who audition!

Hey ABCO…congratulations to your D.

My D received her acceptance today too…she started a Facebook group…Its MPulse MT 2010!! Have your daughter take a peek if she is a Facebook person!

congrats again…

Hi–my D just got her acceptance today, too. Great day around here!! MyBroadwayBaby, I’m 99% sure you’re the mom I met in Michigan at the audition a couple of weeks ago who gave us all the helpful info. I’m the mom from San Fran. and I believe our daughters are now friends on Facebook!

Hi Lindsey Claire! Yes indeed, we did meet in Michigan! I had a good feeling about your gal! My D just told me that she just wrote on her wall on FB! Its really fun for them to connect ahead of time!

Definitely PM me if my D or I can answer any questions, etc!

Exciting!
