Congrats to everyone. I guess this means my rejection letter will come soon But i hope the summer is great for everyone who was accepted!

my broadwaybaby These kids work quicklyâŠmy d already joined the MPulse group your daughter started! They are friends on FB already!!! I bet they canât wait until July.

My daughter and her friend who got accepted also started a FB group today! Since their group had fewer members (2!) they quit it and joined your Dâs, mybroadwaybaby! Fun times ahead! I am a tad worried that the MT program has gotten bigger (when my older d did it four years ago there were only 22 kids) - but am sure they will have a blast.

Iâm sorry, thisismegan, that you didnât get the news you were hoping for. Hate this rejection stuffâŠhope you get into another summer program and have a great time!

Hi again thisismegan - just saw that you got into BTP - have heard great things about that program - congrats!

Another parent of an MPULSE 2010 kid here. What an exciting day yesterday was, and what a great opportunity for these kids! I know DD is really excited about meeting everyone this summer (she already knows at least 3 others who are coming) and has also started chatting on FB.

For those who have already done this, do most folks bring their kids to Michigan or do they typically arrive alone? Also â do most families come for the showcase at the end of the experience?

MomCares

Iâm an alumni of the theatre and drama Mpulse program of 2008! I had a great time- it was one one the best summers of my life!
Iâm from CA and I flew in by myself. UM provided transportation from the Detroit Airport, a really nice student who picked me up at the arrivals gate and brought me straight to my room at Bursley.
My parents did come for the showcase at the end- I think everyoneâs did. Some people who lived close had their extended family and friends come as well.

Thanks, monologue! Itâs great to get a sense of the logistics since weâre already well into making summer plans for the rest of the family. Itâs great to hear that you had a memorable experience at MPULSE in 2008!

Were any/many of the regular MT students around during the summer, or are they all off doing shows?

I canât imagine how they choose between the many talented folks who audition, but it certainly looks like those who are coming will be a wonderful group for an MT-lover to spend a summer with.

Concurring with monologue here: When my younger d did MPulse in 2006 (wow - where did the time go?!) the kids who were coming a distance flew in by themselves and were met at the airport. We coordinated with Dody so that my d arrived around the same time as others and they could shuttle back to UM together. And yes, I think almost all of the parents came for the showcase at the end (which was great, by the way!) There wasnât really any event afterwards - a meet and greet or something would have been nice - but groups of families went out to eat together. The showcase was in the late afternoon, if I remember right. And there will probably be a few current students working at MPulse - and others will likely come and visit. It should be a fun summer!

Thanks for the added info, MTMama! It might be fun to get a group together to go out after the showcase⊠tho who knows, maybe by then weâll all be hungry for some alone-time with our long-lost children

Hey â are all MT moms awake at 4:00am?

Also Iâd meant to ask monologue/MTmama⊠did you/your older child who did MPulse go on to study MT in college?

Well - that was only 1:00 a.m. here on the West Coast!

My d who went to MPulse was one of the lucky ones from that summer who was accepted to UM - so, yes - she went on to study Musical Theatre and is now a junior there. And the other 21 all went on to study MT, voice or theatre (two others were also accepted to UM for MT) as far as I know. Off the top of my head I know that two went on to CCM for MT, two to Indiana, two to Baldwin Wallace, two to UM in other majors - and then a variety of other schools (and three were juniors that summer - two went to CCM and one to UM MT the following year). That was probably more info than you were asking for! - but that was the scoop for that summer - and I think is pretty typical - most of the kids are pretty well decided on MT by their MPulse summer.

Thanks for the added info and I should have know it was 1:00am on the West Coast since thatâs where we are as well. My excuse is that it was too early for me to be fully functional.

Ah⊠so your DD may know Daniel B. and Colin H. from Seattle, though I guess theyâre a year behind her? I lose track of the years. DD has done shows with both of them and has the same vocal coach (same as broadwaybabyâs, too, I think).

I thought Iâd heard that more than 3 folks from MPULSE last year have been accepted to UM MT. Was 3 an unusually low number or did that seem typical? Did all of them apply?

Sorry for all of the questions⊠but Iâm new to all of this!

MTMAMA: I sent you a PM, but i met your daughter when we were there for auditions this year!

We had to accompany our daughter to MPulse last year. We live on the west coast and there just were not any flights that would get her there by noon on Sunday (which is when it was scheduled to begin)âŠso we had to go the night before. There were actually quite a few parents there that first day. There were many who drove. There was a info meeting for parents and kidsâŠcertainly not required. I wouldnât make the trip for that alone.

According to my D, there have been 2 kids accepted from last years MPulse class so far, one boy and one girl. A few were rejected, but most are still in âdeferralâ landâŠ

I thought I would chime in hereâŠmy daughter did not attend any of the Impulse sessions while in high school, although she did attend two years at BTP. She is a freshman MT at Michigan this year and I believe five or six of her class had attended Impulse the prior summer. I know that some of that Impulse class also got into CCM. I think what is common among the Michigan MTâs is most seem to have done some kind of summer program, Impulse, BTP, Carnegie, Stagedoor, etc.

Just thought I would addâŠMichigan is fantastic!

Thanks so much for all the added insight!! Itâs so great to find this board as I havenât wanted to interject myself into the kidsâ FB page but did have all these questions!

Itâs good to know that parents are welcome that first day in case the flights donât work for her to go alone. We may be coming from Milwaukee (MILâs 90th BDay) so maybe thereâs a boat across the lake or something that could be a fun way to get there.

Also interesting to hear what other schools MPULSE kids have chosen. Sounds like none of them pursue medicine, biotech or law after their MPULSE summer, and that theyâre welcomed at many of the best MT programs even if they donât get in to UM. :-)

Hi again - I think, for most years, 2 to 4 kids are accepted out of the MPulse group - but I donât think there is any rhyme or reason to those numbers. And I think last year was unusual with five (or six?) kids accepted.

And for those of us West coasters - when my daughter went four years ago, there were a few kids that got in very early due to taking red eye flights (I think my d got in at something like 6:00 a.m.) They just hung around the airport and waited to get picked up - although I donât think they had to wait until noon. Maybe with so many west coast kids going this year, they will have an earlier shuttle -?

New member here. Son auditioned for MPulse MT by DVD and got notified today of being on âshort waitlist.â Wish I knew the odds of acceptance!

Mcglauser⊠that must be nerve-wracking but itâs still very encouraging as we know plenty of extremely talented kids who didnât even make it to the short list.

It does seem that new people (particularly guys) have been slowly arriving at the FB page, so maybe theyâre admitting people gradually or waiting for people to get back to them. I think they offered DD until March 5 to reply to the offer so maybe youâll hear more after that?

Fingers crossed!!

My son was accepted too! He is so excited! Does anyone know how many tried out?

Congratulations to your son, Deb!

Iâve heard numbers ranging from 195 to 700 but honestly have no idea. At one point Iâd heard 400 was typical, but I guess Dody Blackstone and Mr. Wagner may be among the few who know for sure.

What did others hear?
