Just wondering if there is anyone out there that went to Mpulse and then actually
accepted to Uof M MT program? Seems the percentage might be low? If you did
go to Mpulse but did not get accepted into MT there, where did you get acceptances from?
Thanks!

my son’s roommate went to MPulse and then was accepted…

Thanks for the reply! Any others out there that anyone knows of?

I think D’s year (summer before last) there were 4-5 accepted to UMich from her MPulse class, but also in her year at least 5 kids never auditioned for UMich - 3 went ED to Northwestern (including D) and 1 went EA to Yale while a fifth was a HS Junior and he’s going ED to Northwestern this year (possibly there were more who were young but I know of one for sure).

The other kids from her MPulse class ended up pretty much
everywhere - a couple at CCM, Penn State, Ithaca, Syracuse, OCU, one at Webster… not sure where else.

Maybe mybroadwaybaby’s mom remembers others from that year, plus her D was also at MPulse the year before so she might know where some of those kids landed.

I know of at least two kids from this past summer’s MPulse class who are coming to Northwestern next year, and there may be others who I don’t know.

The class of 2016 has 4 mPulse kids accepted - 2 boys and 2 girls.

My D went to MPulse for two years, the first year, there were 2 girls and 2 boys accepted(our of a total of 27). That year there were 3 or 4 male juniors at MPulse and 2 female juniors, including my D.

The following year (M D’s senior year, same year as Momcares D), there were 2 girls accepted and 3 boys, out of 38 or so.

One interesting thing is that of the 12 boys who are currently freshmen, 6 or 7 attended MPulse, i think all of the boys who were juniors when my D was a junior and 3 who attended the second summer.

We have a friend, from D’s high school who attended last summer and was admitted this year.

I frequently get PM’s asking me if i think MPulse “helps” kids get into UM. I don’t think so. MPulse is really a terrific program and one that is a nice way for we very-biased parents to vet our kids…as i believe its one of the only truly auditioned summer programs left. My D learned so much and is still reaping the rewards of her time there, in training, personal understanding and relationships.

As Momcares said, not all the kids who attend MPulse end up wanting to attend UMich or even be MT’s. D has at least one friend from each year who chose to study something entirely different and aren’t interested in UM (though one kid applied there for something else, like molecular bio), and several kids each year who had their mind focused on other schools, including Northwestern and NYU. However, i would say the vast majority truly hopeto attend UMich and are hopeful that they will have the chance. Of the kids my D attended MPulse with, all those accepted, attended.

While I completely agree with @mybroadwaybaby that attending MPulse doesn’t automatically get you in to UMich, if ~5 out of the 30 who audition get in, those odds are still WAY better than the 15 out of ~400 who get in without having attended MPulse. ;-D

Btw… we also know kids (guys of course) who were rejected from MPulse but were later accepted to UMich, so that happens as well.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful replies!
