Today's 11AM information session at Cornell was a but different than I expected. Rather than have a reginal admissions officer ramble on about statistics and college information, Mr. Locke (the head director of admissions at Cornell) came in and just had a discussion with the visitors. We introduced ourselves in the beginning saying where we were from, etc (he even knew the names of some of our college consulers and stuff about them) and then he asked us what we thought Cornell was looking for in an applicant then had a Q and A session with him.

Is this how Cornell's info sessions are generally run? If so I liked this more personal format a lot better.

Did you have a small session? All the presenters have their own styles, stories they like to tell, etc. But at this time of year, the information sessions are usually very large, and it is impractical to hold a discussion-style information session in a standing-room-only crowd of 200 people, so they are generally more of a typical overview. Lucky you, though!

No, our group was fairly normal and kind of small. Probably 8 families I would say? Yeah something like that. Also (side note) he's got a great memory. We went around saying what we wanted to study and such and he remebered all of it and stuff like that.

In the CALS school, we have small sessions on Mon and Fri with CALS admission officer and one or two ambassadors who answer questions. THe groups are for the most part small to encourage personalized attention.

No, this wasnt a school specific info session it was the general one
