MS Electrical Engineering Technology???

I have my BSEE. I am considering pursing my MSEE. I knpw live in the Atlanta area. There are only a few schools in the Atlanta area that I can go to for MS Electrical Engineering. It would be really hard for me to travel, and I probably don't have the best GPA to get into GA Tech. (Graduated with 3.0 but had one really BAD semester that I'm sure doesn't look good on transcript) I did happen to notice that Southern Polytechnic had a Master's Program in Electrical Engineering Technology. I keep hearing all of the negative hype on getting an engineering technology degree and after I looked at the course comparisons and they don't seem to compare much. Not sure what to do at this point, I don't think I have many other options.

If I don't go to SPSU, I probably would go with my second choice and get my MBA next. I am currently working as as technical manager for a very reputable company and am doing fairly well. There seems to be several opportunities to move up in management later on if I would like to. I figured I would feel out the management while I got my MSEE and once I got that if I still wanted to go get into higher level management, I would then get my MBA.

If you could provide some insight on this matter it would be really helpful. What should I do, should I pursue the MSEET? Any Advice?

I would not pursue a MSEET. It’s not the same thing as a MSEE, which seems to be what you really want. There’s nothing wrong with technology degrees and you can get good jobs with them but they’re not engineering degrees.

How long ago did you graduate? If you’re a recent graduate you may find it hard to get into a decent business school with such little work experience.

Thanks for the advice PurdueEE. I graduated in 2008. I did experience not getting into B-School when I applied to Emory. Throughout college, I worked nights as a retail manager (4 1/2 years). The job I have now is fairly new(9 months in October). It seems I’m stuck in a rut here. Do you know of any reputable online degree programs? Maybe I should try GA Tech on a whim who knows, but there definitely needs to be a backup plan.

For undergraduate to get into Master program at Georgia Tech, you must have least 3.25 GPA in undergraduate degree and for PhD, 3.5 GPA to qualify. This requirement is strictly enforced for undergraduate EE/CompE major from Gatech to qualify for admission to master /PhD program. I know someone who applied for master in ECE got rejected with 3.18 GPA but got admission to computer science master program. I don’t wanna let you down but if you got an engineer degree in Georgia other than Georgia Tech … well not gonna serve you any good in the future IMO. Where did you get your undergraduate degree? admission to master program might overlook your GPA / school rank if you get extensive work experience. Getting into master program is harder than getting in as undergraduate for top ranking program.
