MS in Accy a plus?

I graduated in May with a MS in Accounting from a top 3 accounting school. I am looking to pursue a career in tax law and was wondering if my degree would help in the application process. Both my undergrad and masters GPA were 3.6. Specifically, I am looking to go to Northwestern. When I was researching Northwestern I noticed that they accept the GMAT with equal weight as the LSAT, is that common for law schools?

Some more information about me:
3 years as a systems analyst
2 years as a corporate accountant
Since graduation I have been working as an internal auditor.

The MS should help with law school tuition, and should be a nice boost to your job prospects beyond law school.

The GMAT thing is news to me. In any event, it’s not a common policy.

I know Northwestern has JD-MBA program; are you sure the GMAT option isn’t really just for those applying for that program? Their JD class profile page shows LSAT scores, not GMAT.
Thank you for the replies.

Sam Lee: This is the program at Northwestern that I saw the GMAT listed as an acceptable entrance exam.

[Northwestern Accelerated JD](http://www.law.northwestern.edu/academics/ajd/)

“Northwestern Law prices tuition by the degree pursued rather than the length of enrollment. Therefore, tuition for the Accelerated JD Program is pro-rated to equal the same total cost as the traditional three-year JD Program.”

Well …

But they do complete the same number of credit hours as traditional three-year JD students. I don’t think they are shortchanged.

jones,

Well, I guess you have nothing to worry about if you want to take GMAT. You probably need 700.

I took the GMAT for my masters and got a 680. Do you think that would be close enough?

I hate how you said “top 3 acc school.” Do you realize that all acc schools are the same, so top 3 my ass; law schools don’t care.

To DaNDHSIrishGuy: Do you realize that all acc schools are the same

What are you basing your statement on?

While 680 is a pretty good score, it may be a bit weak for Northwestern considering that their LSAT range is one of the top-10 highest in the nation. Even the low end of their mid-50% is 167 which is around 95th percentile. 680 in GMAT is somewhere between 88-90th percentile. But this accelerated program is fairly new and may not be as competitive as the regular JD program. That may help.
