MS in Biostatistics

I'm inquiring to anybody lurking that has been accepted to a MS program for Biostatistics.

I have my sights set on U of Washington, and their MS program for Biostatistics in the School of Public Health.

I am currently working on completing my BS in Statistics. I will be done in another 3 semesters and plan to apply after next year. I was looking at the UW Grad School website and saw their prereqs for the program consisted of a Bachelors in a quantitative field (math, stats, etc). So I know I will be good there. They also appear to only look at your last two years GPA - which I don't mind.

I'm an older student (early 30's) that has been running my own business for the past decade, but am focusing on a career change. While I have no background in biostatistics or academic research, I do have considerable "life skills" that your typical 22 year old recent college grad with minimal job experience probably does not have.

The thing that scares me is there is only a 20% acceptance rate for this program. I'd just like to know the background (GRE, GPA, degree, courses taken, resume/experience, etc) of somebody that has been accepted into UW's BioStats program, or a similar program (Emory, Pitt, JHU, GaTech, etc).

Also, is there anything else I should do within the next year to improve my chances (internship, research, etc) besides getting great grades and high GRE's? I'm currently learning SAS, which I know is the base computer language for Stats/Biostats.

I'm extremely interested in this path for a career change. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just got accepted here with full funding. Best of luck!
