Ms in Journalism at Columbia

Hi,

I'm a college senior and will graduate next year. My major is Finance; however, I chose finance because I wanted to be a financial journalist. Now I'm about to graduate and I would like to continue my study in journalism field. My current GPA is 4.00 (however, I think by the time I graduate, it could be around 3.96.) I can speak 3 languages. I have been on exchanged students programs 2 times ( to USA and China.) I spent a summer interning at the Security and Exchange Commission, and I'm about to start working at Thomson Reuters after I graduate. The only related experiences I have in this field are.. I'm writing for my university's newspaper, and I had attended a News Reporting Class in an acedemy. ++ I have some experience in the entertainment industry, but not a lot.

I think my profile may give me an advantage if I apply for an Ms Finance program, but I really like journalism T.T What should I do? My dream university is Columbia, is it too high for me?

Based on what you have noted, you should be a competitive applicant in the admissions pool. Students come from a variety of academic backgrounds with various levels of jourrnalism experience. The fact you have a background in finance is not important. Having a strong appreciation for news and storytelling is critical. When applying, be sure to have a clear understanding of reporting and writing of news stories, the focus of the J-School curriculum. You are certainly in the ballpark and would be a competitive applicant.
