I am a student of National Institute of Technology Durgapur, passed out in the year 2010. I want to apply for an M.S. in structural Eng in U.S. or Canada for fall 2012. ( Interested mainly in research in bridge, earthquake eng, analysis & design & computational mechanics). Presently I'm working as Assistant Manager in a reputed real estate company.

Recently I have given my GRE with a score of quant 800 & verbal 540. My brief credentials are as follows:

10th: 85%
12th: 84.6%
cgpa: 7.93/10
GRE : quant 800 & verbal 540
Toefl: not given expected 100+ ( toefl date aug 28)

I had done summer project at Indian Institute of technology Kharagpur in both structural engineering & water resource engineering. I have no paper published.

In the break up of the college grades that I have obtained I have good grades in engineering mathematics , fluid & soil mechanics (ranging from A to B) & little bit reserve grade in structural mechanics, design of steel & concrete structures & concrete technology( ranging from B to D).

I want to know what will be best universities to apply with my profile in U.S. & Canada. I have a few universities that I have gone thru & would like to apply as:

U.S.:
1. Texas A&M University
2. SUNY - Buffalo
3. Michigan Tech
4. University of Delaware.
5. Case Western Reserve University
6. Washington State University
7. Oklahoma State University
8. Clemson University.
9. Virginia Tech.
10.University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Canada:
1.University of Alberta
2.Concordia University
3.University of British Columbia
4. McGill University.
5. Ecole Polytechnique.
6. University of Waterloo
7. University of western Ontario.

what are my chances in getting admitted in these universities with my profile.

Do you think my gradings in design & analysis or my job profile in real estate industry are going to hurt my prospects?
As I want to go to research mainly, do you think that applying in Canada will be better than applying in US, I mean do you think better research is going on structural engineering in Canada than in US. In US I am targeting universities with rankings between 25 to 50 generally, but I am preferring universities with good research & funding.
Apart from these it would be very helpful if you suggest in any other universities that fits my profile , research interest & funding options. I would be accordingly starting to apply from Sept 2011.

Please help me out.
Thank You
Mridul.
