MS vs. Ph.D

<p>Ok, so we obviously have different philosophies when it comes to this. There really is no point in continuing this discussion; we're not going to change the way the other thinks. I choose to not use sleazy tactics, even though it's commonplace in the business world. At least I'll know there's one less dishonest person in the world.</p>

<p>Like I said, there's a fine line between honesty and naivete. </p>

<p>Let me be clear. I do not advocate LYING on your resume, in the sense of claiming something that you did not actually do. For example, you can't claim to have a degree that you don't actually have. That's beyond the pale.</p>

<p>On the other hand, I do advocate savvy self-marketing and self-promotion. Just like a company tries to advertise its products in a manner to generate sales without outright lying, you should try to advertise your skills in a manner to generate job offers without outright lying. That's just good hard-nosed self-promotion and salesmanship, and I think that's perfectly legitimate.</p>
