So I got acepted to Mater of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics recently. It is a professional science master which means it's non-thesis and kind of a terminal program. I want to know if that could be a problem in the future because I heard that PhD programs may not accept students with a non-thesis masters. I'd also like to know the future of biotech jobs in the U.S., and if anyone graduated with a masters in biotech from an U.S. university, how long it took you to find a job? I also was wondering if I should apply for an MBA later on? Any suggestion?

“PhD programs may not accept students with a non-thesis masters”
Phd programs in the biological sciences accept students right out of undergrad sometimes. A masters degree isn’t going to hurt you, but you should be aware that the psm degrees don’t lend themselves to being good preparation for a Phd. They are just what they say they are, training in the biotech industry.

“I’d also like to know the future of biotech jobs in the U.S.”
I’ll check my crystal ball and get back to you. In the meantime, you can check out [BIO | Biotechnology Industry Organization](http://bio.org/) the biotechnology’s own industry news website and professional organization. This is a report they put out on the status of the industry in 2008 http://bio.org/local/battelle2008/State_Bioscience_Initiatives_2008.pdf

“how long it took you to find a job”
I worked in the biotech industry for a few years after I finished my undergraduate degree. I started work about three weeks after graduation.

“should apply for an MBA later on”
Depends on what capacity you want to work in. Research and development? This may or may not be that helpful. Business strategy, sales, management etc. Definitely

“Any suggestion?”
Try working for a company first and see if it is something you really want to spend the next forty or fifty years doing. These PSM degrees are not cheap, make sure it is worth the investment for you. And finally, if you want to know how people make out after the specific PSM degree program you were accepted to, contact the program administrator directly.
