Msg for those that did early to Joint-Degree Programs

Hey guys, do you think checking one of the single-degree programs as a backdrop will improve, have no effect, or reduce your chances for getting into the joint-degree program?

i think checking off the joint-degree program might actually increase your chance for single.

here's my theory, the pool for the joint-degree program is already more selctive. so if and when you get deffered to second choice, you will have an edge - even if you have the same stats of another applicant of the regular pool, they will think of you a little better just b/c you applied joint-degree (plus shows ambition??). that's what i'm hoping

Ah, I didn't want to defer myself to an ED pool...I'd rather be reconsidered for the joint-degree and then brought to a single degree...

same here, booby. Plus i figure, i had to write a 3rd essay for my jdp. it's one more way for the adcoms to get to know me in a way they won't get to know RD applicants. and you're def. right about the whole "I look focused" thing.

I was told from the joint degree people and admissions people that they do not consider your single degree for joint and vice versa, its like a new application

hmmm at least you got another esssay in there. personally i like my joint-degree essay a lot more than my why penn

pbffft joint degree/admissions people tell you applying early doesn't really give you an advantage either

so if i was to apply regular to a joint-degree, i'd be at an advantage for regular decision for a single major? Let's keep this our little secret. Otherwise, everyone would just select a joint-degree program.

well you do get another essay to bloat your imageup. and to me, it looks like your more focused. but admissions officers tell you they don't give advantage. but i think there is a sort of "emotional" (couldn't think of a better word) impact to it

i think there is both a bonus to applying for a joint program and applying for a second-choice.

Joint program shows focus and desire, you know what you want to do
second choice means you really actually want to come Penn (and not just this program)

my thoughts exactly, zirkon.

actually i liked my Why Penn essay a lot better than my Huntsman essay. The huntsman one was so much more boring...the Why Penn one was all about my bleeding toe.

Then of course I read my friend's INSANE chicago essay...and i looked back at mine and was like "What if they read this all as just SHE IS SUCH A SUCKUP!"??? and died again. lol.

I actually liked both my Chicago and Penn essays. My Chicago one was easier for me to write for some weird reason. But, I heart them both.

what i like about chicago is that they are intent on not letting people recycle essays by making their topics so goddamn weird lol

sort of same with john's hopskins.
that $10 essay.
blah!

wait, what's the 10$ essay? I decided not to apply to hopkins

Well, at least I am sure I sumbitted good essays (relief). I remember my rep telling me that some girl wrote "Wharton School of Bunnies" throughout the ENTIRETY of her essay...gosh...some people are just...bleh.

hey, i heard that story too. ha

hahahaha that's hilarious! wharton school of bunnies!

college of farts and signs

what??
how did bunnies get in there?
did she not know how to spell businness (it does use the same letters)?
MEEP.

she probably typed business wrong every time and the spellchecker made it bunnies lol. poor girl
