MSOE vs UIC

I’m trying to major in electrical engineering or computer engineering, from what I have been told they are very similar so switching majors wouldn’t be the worst thing if I had to. I’ve got accepted into both schools with similar cost for each and both are a similar distance away from home. Between a big school and a small school I don’t see much of a big difference. Anyone know anything to help make the decision?

Can you visit? Attend a match and an engineering class? Check out the labs, eat in the cafeteria?

I have visited both and checked out the labs. Haven’t been able to sit in on a class though.

Did you have a personal preference?

If I did then this would be much easier.

MSOE will have smaller classes. Most freshmen live on campus and many remain in the off campus area, whereas at UIC MANY classes are very large and most students commute. This would make a difference depending on whether you plan to commute to either one, or plan to live on campus.

My nephew graduated from MSOE in mechanical engineering and loved the school. He got a great job after graduation. My cousin went to UIC for graduate school, its a much bigger school, public school. My daughter was accepted to UIC (not for engineering) I would much prefer her to go to a private school versus an out of state public school unless it was a highly rated one if costs were comparable and if not interested in in state schools. MSOE is a great school and if finances are the same as UIC, go with MSOE. Also, agree with the prior poster that if you are want more of an on campus environment, go with MSOE.
