MSU Fall 2018 Transfer Students

Hi everyone! I’ve just applied to Michigan State for fall 2018 for my sophomore year. I just kinda wanted to make this thread for other transfer students so we can talk & share our experiences!

Thought it might be helpful to put at the top of this thread…

I was accepted Fall 2017 on 8/21/17 (I know, like 1 week before MSU classes started)
Transfer from Oakland Community College
28 credits exactly - Some were even taken over the summer prior to acceptance

-----2.868 Cumulative GPA------- with both Math and Writing requirements completed (WRA 101 and MTH 116+)

Just want to tell everyone who looks at this thread or are at all thinking about transferring to MSU, do not stress, you will get accepted if you really want to. The classes I was taking over the summer prior to enrollment were requirements to transfer to MSU, and I was told by the Office of Admissions that the timeframe would not work out and there’s no way I would be accepted for Fall 17’ because I wouldn’t be at that 28 credit mark early enough. Even with this being said I found by admissions counselor’s contact information and began to stay in touch with him and try to stay updated on what was best for admission and what I should do. Coming down to the end of summer, since my summer classes weren’t finished yet, but were needed for admission review, it really came down to me taking a screenshot of D2L and sending it to my admissions counselor for review so that he knew I would pass my requirements. That being said, you really will get accepted if you want to I cannot stress that enough.

Michigan State is an amazing place and you would be extremely smart to transfer there, the experience really is unlike any other.

I’ll check in on this thread every once in a while so if you guys have questions don’t hesitate to ask.

I wish you guys the best of luck

Go Green

Fall 2018

Hello everyone, would love some input from anyone on what you think on where I stand. I am a transfer student from MCC, I applied with 12 credits completed with a 4.0 GPA. I am registered for 16 credits for spring semester and an additional 4 credits in summer. I will have WRA101 completed and MTH will be in the summer. Will they give me admission for fall? My major would be business. Also my high school GPA was a 2.0 but I do meet 28 credits so I don’t need to include that in the app.

Hi everyone:) i just realized I never posted my story! I’m currently a freshman at my local community college & I applied to MSU for fall 2018 (for my sophomore year). I only had a 3.24 in highschool with a 1040 SAT (which is bad, ik). My fall GPA was a 3.91 with 18 credits. I am taking the math & english requirement this spring. I will have exactly 28 credits that transfer by the end of the spring semester. I’m just worried about having to wait until spring to find out if I’m in, and then to try and figure out dorms, does anyone know about dorms for transfer kids if you are accepted after May 1st?

You are in very good shape you should receive an acceptance letter in March at latest. Having the 28 credits by spring is huge, I am under the same boat I will have 28 by spring but my math won’t be completed till summer. Right now I have a 4.0 with 12 credits and I applied with that. You are a much better candidate than me and everyone said I should get a notice soon

Thank you!! that makes me happy to hear  I hope you get in as well! are you applying to go as a sophomore or a junior? what is your major?

I’m applying as a sophomore and my major will be business. I wish I went out of high school but I was busy with football and basketball which kept my grades low. We should start like a iMessage or Snapchat thread where we can easily share admission news etc. I’m so late at replying here lol.

yeah i’m applying as a sophomore too! I kinda wish i went after high school too but I saved a looot of money by just going to cc for a year. my major is going to be environmental biology & zoology! Im down to snapchat! can you dm people on here? @collegelife19

Hey sorry for the late response, again I always forget to check this thread. I don’t think they let us DM here. Add me on Snapchat “masum_c3”. I hear we can pick dorms around March.

@alyssar4

I’m applying to Fall 2018 as a transfer. I don’t have a high GPA, but i wanted to see where I would land.

GPA: 2.7 (3.3 gpa last semester)
Credits: 35
University: University of Michigan Dearborn

Hi! I have also applied for the fall 2018 semester as a graphic design major. I will be finishing my sophomore year at a community college this semester. I currently have a 3.8 and 47 credits completed. I have all my requirements done (ENGL 1210 and ENGL 1220), besides math which I plan to take this summer! What do you think?

Im sure you’ll get in! @graphicdesign98 I’m really hoping that I’ll hear something towards the end of this month. It’s been 7 weeks since I applied right on Nov 15! I just received my final fall grades & submitted them for review in my portal, I ended with a 3.91 GPA with 18 credits (only 14 transfer to MSU tho) and like i said my math & eng requirements will be met this upcoming spring semester.

My high school gpa was 3.35. My cumulative college gpa is around 2.5. As a student trying to transfer into MSU I know that my grades for the current semester (Spring 2017) can boost my gpa approx 0.3. Should I wait to complete my transfer application so I can send them my good midterm, or even final grades of this semester while they are evaluating the app, or should I just finish the application at the very start of this current semester (Jan 2017) even though my gpa will be worse and they’ll probably make a decision before I can send any grades of the current semester.

I got my admission letter just a few days ago. I applied early November. Good luck everyone

I submitted my application and self reported my grades on the first day the transfer app opened and its yet to switch to the under review status.
Stats:
Delta College Cumulative GPA is a 3.29
3.68 last semester.
I’m a member of the student Government and involved in several other organizations on campus.
also working a part time internship
Good Luck everybody, I hope to see you in the fall!

Wow @collegelife19 you already got accepted as a transfer? Damn. My portal hasn’t even updated & I submitted right on Nov 15! I’m hoping to hear something reallll soon.

@SpartanHopeful I’m in the same position as you, I applied the day the application opened! And I self reported my Fall grades, nothing yet. Your GPA is solid I’m sure you will hear something soon. Have you completed the math & eng requirements?

@alyssar4 I finished the math requirement last semester and my English was completed last year! I hope you hear something soon.

I applied the day it opened and my portal still doesnt say under review! Anyway i have a 3.18 all my math and english courses are complete and by the time i finish this semester ill have around 54 credits, what do you think my chances are? I put Business preference for my major! hopefully i get in!!
