Hello, I'm a freshmen at Michigan State University, majoring in Accounting. I currently have 4.0(fall semester), and aiming for 4.0 the nest semester too. I am not sure if graduating from MSU Honor College would get me better off than UofM Ross BBA program. Please post what you think guys :).

you wont be. MSU is a non-target, Ross is a target.

A 3.4+ Ross grad would have much better career opportunity than a 4.0 accounting major at MSU just because of the much better on campus recruiting and access to elite jobs (like front office BBs, elite boutiques and M/B/B strat consulting) that only recruit at elite universities.

On the other hand, I am not sure you guys will even be competing for the same jobs. A top accounting major at MSU will be competing for the top accounting jobs (big 4s of the world), while even the slightly above average ross student with focus in accounting will be competing for much more selective investment banking or strat consulting (M/B/B etc) jobs (obviously this is a generalizations and there are exceptions). A Big 4 gig is pretty much backups for most Ross students, while a big deal at most ordinary state schools like MSU.

You might think it is unfair (though to be fair it is much easier to do well at MSU), it is the way it is. The business world is very elitist and the name matters a lot.

Thank you for the response bearcats. It was helpful :).

That, and no one really knows what MSU is (no offense). But Ross is nationally known to be in the top 5 of business schools.
