msu honors college? scholarships

You can always get into the HC in Spring '12 as well: [url=<a href=“http://honorscollege.msu.edu/admissions/index.html]Honors”>Admissions Overview - MSU Honors College]Honors College Admission/url

You have to be in the top 10% of your class of your college.

For some in RCAH, for example, that meant a 4.0 lol.

OP, what are you majoring in? Sorry if you posted it somewhere, I don’t have time to find it. :(

i would like to major in pre med idk if they have it or not. otherwisse just bio or biochem

Pre-Med is not a major but it is a track (sequence of courses you take in addition to your major). MSU has a human biology major, that is the most common major for pre-med students to take but regular biology or biochem is perfectly fine too.

oh i see thanks!

When do you receive information about scholarships, etc.? I was just admitted and I’m eager to know if I got anything. If I get the international large scholarship I’ll definitely consider MSU as an option!

Son was admitted a few weeks ago, followed by notification of receiving an invitation to the Honors College (including a scholarship plus professorial assistantship totalling around $4500/year). Also received in the last couple of days an invitation to participate in the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship competition, which could result in tuition, fees, and room and board for 4 years. Pretty excited about that possibility. His stats: GPA 4.06, ACT 36, National Merit Semi-Finalist, AP Scholar w/Honor, #1 in his class.

I also was invited to this Alumni Distinguished Scholarship (how prestigious is this anyway?), but received no scholarships. I thought I was eligible for the $6,000 but received nothing of that sort, does Michigan State give scholarships later? Also I am borderline in getting into the Honors College, I think I just need two more ACT points, would I still get a letter about Honors College at all though? Im Out of State

We are in-state… I don’t know if that factors into it. Reading requirements for the Honors College, it states that an applicant must be in the top 5% of their graduating class AND have an ACT score of at least 30. I don’t know about the $6,000 scholarship. Possibly something available for OOS? I don’t know what qualified my son for the scholarship offers he’s received so far from MSU, but his stats are pretty solid, I think.

Any idea what I could get as an international?
Canada
4.0
2300 SAT I
val
most rigorous course load
solid ECs

I’m hoping for that 12k international scholarship but I don’t know if I can get anything more. (maybe that Honors one and prof assis for 4.5k?).

^^sorry I am not sure. I don’t know the policy of merit aid for international students… but if you have a 2300+ and a 4.0, you should get into the honors college no problem (and at least qualify for the professorial assistantship/honors scholarships that go along with that…unfortunately i don’t know if international students can qualify for it, you’ll have to ask the University directly).

Did anybody get an email asking to schedule an appointment this Wed/Thurs to speak with the Director of Admissions/Honors College (not sure which) today? What am I supposed to make of this? I haven’t gotten anything in the mail regarding the ADS/Professorial Assistant, but do have a decent SAT/GPA though my school doesn’t rank…

For anybody who is borderline and thinking the Honors College is a definite no-go at this point, I was just invited today.

My States: 3.8 UW (5 APs, 2 Dual-Enrollment Courses at MSU, School offers no “Honors” Classes.)
No Class Rank
32 ACT

I applied on October 9th, was accepted to the University as a whole on around the 13th.

Basically what I’m saying is don’t consider yourself out of the running if you’re near the cutoff and still haven’t received an invite.

^I wonder… I have a 29 ACT but that is very very high for my school (that averages a 17)

Can transfers (who are transferring in the beginning of their sophomore year) get professorial assistantships? And if someone hasn’t heard by now (4 weeks later)- is that a bad thing? Thank you guys.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread.

But can anybody confirm if international students get Professor Assistantships and Honors Scholarships? I have an admitted to the Honors College.

@DarkL0rd - I don’t know whether International students are eligible. But your Honors College “Welcome” letter should have included the Assistantships and Honors Scholarships if they were offered. The third paragraph of my son’s letter from last November included this information.

@Beaudreau No, it was not mentioned in the welcome letter.

Is there any chance that they might give a scholarship at a later time. Because I received 4 scholarships 2 of which were given to me at the time of admission and 2 were given on 30th march.

Do you think that they might do so for honors assistantship and scholarship?

@DarkL0rd - Sorry, no idea. I’m just a parent.
