MSU Transfer 2019

Hi all! I haven’t seen a thread for this yet so i thought i might start one! This is for all students applying for transfer to MSU to start fall ‘19. The application opened November 15, 2018. I applied the day it opened at 9 or 10 A.M. I still haven’t heard a response and my portal still reads “Your application to Michigan State University has been received and will be reviewed once all materials have been received and processed.” it’s been about 8 weeks.

I am in my last semester at LCC and have a 3.68 GPA and will have 60 completed credits by the end of this May… everyone says I will get in just to calm my nerves, but i want to know if anyone else is in my shoes and would like to talk about it (and hopefully tell each other when we are accepted). Let me know, all!!

I really would like to know peoples timelines if they have gotten accepted already… and if a past transfer student comes across, tell us your timeline too!

Did you call admissions? They usually say 8 weeks after receiving all documents. Anything on the portal under messages?

@airway1 technically the 15th of January would be my 8 weeks, i think ?. I’ve emailed the admissions people and they I’ve sent in everything, I’ve also sent in my transcripts which i don’t believe i actually needed to. Would you suggest calling them? I am just scared per se as to what to might respond with… meaning “if you haven’t heard now then it’s not looking good.” I’m also not sure what I’d have to call and ask about because that would be me just asking about my acceptance. I feel most worried about the space issue. They list that due to past semesters having a large transfer rate they need to comb through more essentially. I feel like that’s my biggest concern.

And nothing under my emessages… just the initial message they send to tell you what to do… which is what the message on the home screen also says. I just hope i don’t end up waiting for a response that ends badly (being denied obviously). I’ve given myself the timeline of… sometime in January before February.

@rdtosparty I don’t think you have anything to worry about. It also could be just the amount of applications they got as this year they joined the commonApp. I must admit this year unlike last year they are asking for documents I didn’t have to deal with last year. I called me last year and two days later my kid got a change in his portal to accepted.

@airway1 weird, i didn’t think there were many documents to add at all. So you kid was a transfer for fall ‘19 and was already accepted?

Wow!! It took posting to this to get my first answer. My portal now reads “under review”

I applied the day the application opened. I completed 18 credits with a 4.0 last semester at OU. This semester I am taking 16 credits, including the math and writing requirements. I know that I am probably in a good spot but I’ve still been anxious and so I checked the portal for updates almost every day. I updated my academic record on Dec 18 when my grades were released. As of this morning, my portal has updated to “under review.” Now I’m just waiting for the decision. I hope this helps!

@Student80001 i applied November 15 and completed all the requirements during the 2017-2018 school year… my portal also switched over today!! I’m hoping it’s only a few days. I check mine every day as well… i just hope my grades are well enough. Good luck!

I was looking through the posts from “MSU Fall 2018 Transfer Students.” I saw that some portals switched to “under review” at around January 15th, 2018, for some people who applied on the day the application opened. These people heard back as early as about 1-2 weeks after the update. Also, I am 99% sure that offers of admission are not dependent on the length time it takes to review applications. I’ve read about people who were offered admission literally a week before the Fall 2018 term started. Hopefully this calms your nerves a little bit. Besides, you seem like you’re in a good spot. A 3.68 with 60 credits and the math/writing requirements completed already make you extremely competitive.
If you want the link to the posts I was reading, here it is.

@Student80001 haha i stalked that thread for awhile and read quite a bit of what people were saying. I am hoping it doesn’t take too long… a week before school starts, would be happy that i got accepted but not sure it would fair well with my mental state… that’d be so stressful. MSU is the only place i applied to for transfer so if i don’t get accepted… i am not sure what i do after my CC graduation. There’s a lot of hoping and praying on my end haha

I don’t think you’ll hear back by then lol. According to MSU Admissions, it can take up to 12 weeks to hear a decision after all documents have been received. Since your portal updated today, you should be hearing back within these next 12 weeks. In any case, you do seem like a fantastic candidate for admission. I’m hoping for the best for both of us

Thank god someone started this thread, thought I was the only one losing my mind over this. I applied for Fall 2019. I am a freshman in my first semester of college, I only have 8 credits so far with a 3.3 in Fall 2018. I am going 20 credits this semester with the english and math requirement. I submitted my high school transcripts, and sat scores (which haven’t gotten there yet), and self reported my classes and everything. My status went to ‘Under Review’ today as well. Really hoping I will hear back soon because i’m starting to become anxious that I wont get in.?

@spartyparty i literally felt the same way as you did haha. I haven’t seen anywhere that people are stressing themselves out over this… so here we are haha. I hope it doesn’t end up being a whole 12 week wait for the final decision, the first 8 weeks were rough as it was ?

@rdtosparty I just really hope that we find out soon! My friend applied with like 38 credits, sent everything, writing requirement, 3.9 in High School and 3.5 in college, and one hell of an essay. she’s scared she won’t get in because the math requirement.

@rdtosparty add me on snap, we can worry about it together?? Paigemvermy

Just one issue MSU had their largest freshman class might be they are awaiting how many drop out… I think 8500 students in the freshman class. I wouldnt be worried I expect that with the common app this year they might be having a large application pool than last year. My second is having to send more documents than his brother who is a freshman there

@spartyparty i just added you! I feel like she will get in. In the very least they might say she can get in but she might have to defer or something like that or prove they really want to go, my friend had to do that for a diff school.

@airway1 yeah that has been my biggest concern too, actually! I figured out like 3 weeks too late that they changed the transfer app and then i had to wait for a couple months for it to open. And they say that the availability/space is much lower due to interest. So we’ll see. One of my friends is convinced that transfer students get top priority over freshman applicants
