MSU Transfer 2019

@rdtosparty well MSU has a large freshman class last year and I don’t think transfers get priority over freshman. Most schools look at transfers later. Also, take into account I think transfers on the junior level have a better chance in business and engineering as MSU students must maintain a certain gpa or get drop off by the university… my biggest concern with my son right now

@airway1 well i guess i have the junior thing going for me… but i am not business or engineer major. Every circumstance is so different to compare to.

Hope you do get in! I really enjoyed the campus beautiful facilities and had a great time attending a football game.

I’m super nervous wondering what my chances are for admission as an international transfer student incoming as a sophomore for fall 2018 from a cc in the USA? gpa is 3.36 but I’ll only have 25 credits but will have the English and a math but different from what they require. I applied as soon as the transfer opened and is currently under review. Any feedback is appreciated.

I meant fall 2019^^^

@spartyhopeful wait so how does it work being international transfer? Like you are here from another country that started at community college? I almost wonder if you could have used the international application. The only thing i will say is even though it asks for the 28 credits and the English and math credits, that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t look at your app because you only have the 25 and two diff classes. If you don’t have the 28 credits then you would have to send HS grades and such but would still be considered a transfer. Having the English and math and 28 credits already done just means that the applicant is “competitive.” I assume that means a competitive applicant/application might have more of an advantage but who knows!

Thank you @rdtosparty for the reply that’s a little bit promising!
Yes I’m from Canada and applying as an international transfer. Currently a freshman in California cc.
Fingers crossed.
Really looking forward to hearing news soon from everyone’s acceptances

@spartyhopeful ahh okay. Well i mean from my perspective… i think you qualify for transfer application no matter what you have done and completed. I saw on the transfer thread for 2018 that people had even less than what you had… not sure if they got in (can’t remember or they didn’t say). As long as you’ve taken classes that are equivalent to MSU classes i think it’ll be ok. That’s just my opinion on what all you have said. And i hope everyone on this thread gets accepted! This stress deserves a happy ending.

Hi everyone! I’m applying as a transfer for summer 2019 as a transfer from a four year out of state university (I chose summer over fall so I could have more time to get acclimated with EL). I am currently a freshman with 15 credits completed (4.0 GPA) and I am taking 15 more this semester for a total of 30 before I hopefully begin at MSU. I applied on Nov 21 and my last materials were received on Dec 10 and while I know it says it can take 8-10 weeks, I am starting to get nervous that I won’t get in. I will have the math and writing requirements completed and I submitted my ACT scores (31) and high school transcripts (4.3 GPA weighted), but I am still nervous I won’t be accepted. Does anyone know if MSU gives any preference to a certain class when admitting transfers? i.e. is it easier for someone to get in as an incoming junior than sophomore? Good luck to everyone who has applied, I hope to see you all at MSU in the fall:)

Has anyone received a change in application status or acceptance since last week?

@spartyhopeful i haven’t ?? i want to hear back by February but doubtful that will happen (reverse psychology ???)

@michst8soon i am not sure i have ever heard of the accepting a junior over sophomore, but if it is I’m in good shape ? the only way i could see that actually being a preference is because presumably an incoming junior has more credits to be evaluated upon. I’m going to be honest, your ACT and gpa are phenomenal. I wouldn’t worry since you’ve had a 4.0 at all school institutions/levels. If you are worried about the amount of credits you have, i would say don’t worry about it, i think that’s the least important on the list… the amount basically just tells you if you have to send HS stuff or not.

@spartyhopeful I haven’t had any change on mine. Has anyone who applied when the application first opened called to ask about when we will hear back? I might do that this week just to check in because I am really starting to get anxious lol

@michst8soon i didn’t call i just emailed and asked how much longer after the portal changed to under review, i got “It takes 8-12 weeks to review and render a decision.“ and that’s all

does anybody know if the 8-12 weeks start after completing the application or once the application goes under review?

@kmalin I believe after it goes under review, on the dates and deadlines tab for transfer it says can take up to 12 weeks, so could be any time/any day

I heard back this morning and like I expected, they said they needed to see my spring semester grades before rendering a final decision. I figured that this would happen since I have only completed one semester of college, but it is still a bit anxiety provoking because I applied for the summer semester and won’t be able to send my grades until the week before those classes begin. Good luck to anyone still waiting to hear back, I hope to see you guys in EL in the summer or fall:)

@michst8soon
Thanks so much for sharing! Best of luck to you and please keep us posted. I’ve heard nothing since it went under review

I haven’t heard back yet either, haven’t noticed anyone else getting accepted either. Hopefully February is the month!!

Was just reading through this thread and good luck to all of you!! I am also applying and just sent in my application and was just curious if anyone heard back, so let me know when you guys do. I’m nervous about myself as well, I am @ LCC right now and have a 3.4 and will have 54 credits so hopefully I can get admitted!!
