MSU vs George Washington

Kind-of odd choice, I know. They are very different schools, but I love them both. To sum it up; I love sports/school spirit of MSU. I visited there already, and loved the campus/people. Plus its relatively near chicago where my relatives are. But George Washington University is in the big city, are D.C. internship possibilities too tempting to pass up? I'm majoring in international affairs so no doubt GW would be great for that. Plus, all the stuff to do in D.C....and its fairly warm there. Any suggestions?

crackers or steak

Wow no contest go to GW. I live in Michigan and MSU is for the kids who get like B's/C's in high school and a 24 on their ACT.

GW is a much cooler location too and is supposed to be amazing and the dorms are supposed to be the best in the country.

I live in Michigan, and that is BS. 24 ACT, maybe. But I only know a couple kids getting in with under a 3.3. But that isn't the point.

MSU Honors College and the PA program are fantastic. Among my school's top students the split is 50/50 MSU/UM. It is an interesting trendline - As the stats get better it goes OCC/Directional's and GVSU/State/UM/split MSU and UM.

James Madison is very good, and you get soooo much from the Honor's College. I have 2 cousins that did the Honors College(one with the PA), and they were not limited in any way. One is currently getting his masters in Accelerator Physics at Cornell.

And having the MSU social/athletic scene vs. GWU. No comparison.

Yeah, that Bs & Cs kid thing is way out of bounds for MSU. Not that there are a few who exist, but to state it as though it's the norm simply is ridiculous... GWU and MSU are both good schools. Like you note, they are totally different, trappings-wise. If you want to be in a big, bustling international city near the seat of power, GWU is the way to go. But you won't get much campus at all; much of GWU is converted apt buildings and brownstones with like one greenspace on campus. Plus, its very expensive. MSU is a large, traditional rah-rah State U, but one with a stronger-than-most academic component and strong, diverse and cultural component.

thanks for the advice! If I get into GW with sufficient $, then i will visit there and see how i like it. Otherwise, MSU seems like the way to go!

you should choose msu because GW is an expensive school in a very expensive city...I would also think MSU has a larger alumni network and probably better job placement services. idk
