So i'm a sophomore at Montclair State and i just recently got accepted to Rutgers New Brunswick as a criminal justice major. I'm just afraid i would do bad at Rutgers just because people say it's a hard school and also because of the size. I've been debating if i should transfer and dorm, or apply to Rowan and dorm, or just dorm at Montclair because i want that full college experience. I feel that if i dorm at Montclair, it would be a waste of money because i live five minutes away but i don't want to commute because i want to move out for once.

If they accepted you, it means you are capable of graduating. Have you visited the campus? Do you know anyone who goes to Rutgers? Maybe you can spend a day with them. Most of your classes (as a junior) would probably be on Livingston campus.

Dorm or not to dorm: If my child lived 5 minutes away, I don’t think I would have them dorm. It’s just too expensive. There are other ways to meet people, such as joining clubs or activities. You have to make an effort either way.

If you can afford tuition, room and board, you should go. I wouldn’t worry about it being ‘too hard’. If you go to classes and study you will be fine.

It might be my imagination, but I know very few Rutgers NB people that actually get their undergrad degree in 4 years. It always seems that, due to class scheduling or other factors, that Rutgers finds a way to bleed another semester or two out of undergrads. Don’t take my stuff to the bank, but investigate.

I agree with everything rualum says. If you can save on exorbitant housing and meal costs, it’s really worth it. Just find a reason to hang on campus more by getting involved.
