Msu?

Hey everyone,

I applied ED to Cornell, but applied to the MD Scholar's Program anyway because the deadline was 11/1. After my acceptance in mid-December, I called both MSU and the MD Scholar's separately to cancel my application. Well, as it turns out, I guess they never did, and I received a rejection today.

My stats were as follows:
-instate
-4.0 u/w
-rank: 2/~400
-30 ACT/2210 SAT I
-780 US, 730 Biology-M, 700 Math IIC
-shadowing experiences/volunteering/multitude of extracurriculars
-"great" essays

Do you guys think I was simply rejected because I cancelled my admission? I though for sure that the admissions committee would simply remove my application?

highschooldoc you're the most positive person i've seen on this site... :) :)

...and yeah you PERFECLY fit the description of a Ritesh i know, that's why i asked...

gobigred: congrats on cornell! :)

Thanks Anita!

Good luck to you on your interview.

thanx gobigred :) i need all the luck i can get ... i'm leaving for michigan in a few hours... mannn this is making me so nervous... >.<

How was the interview for those who went on the 3rd? Was it laid back?

sooooo guys ...anyone know when we hear from them???

we hear mid-march i think

So if you all are accepted, is this your first choice?

And who's from Michigan on here?

either this or UMKC, most likely. I'm from Michigan...

I'm a high school junior, and I know I'm not gonna get in! Yay!

My stats aren't nearly as competitive as HSDOC's are and I'm not nearly as involved in extra-curriculars.

I commend your high school acheivements, you should easily be able to get into some sweet ivy-leagues schools. It looks as if you have steadfast dedication and a true passion for medicine, and you should take the rejection with a grain of salt, you will definitely get in the 'conventional' way during college. :)

It is my personal opinion that the comitee is really looking for people interested in medicine. I know firsthand that being Indian automatically makes your highest possible acheivement something in the medical field. It is just given. Due to that, many students will work extremely hard in high school and do great things, making their applications shine bigtime. They can get into any school they want because they look great on paper. The problem is that when it comes time to apply and interview for something specialized like the medical program, the kids come up short because they were never really interested in medicine, they were just blindly following the path set before them.

I think the commitee must know this and therefore they try and look for steadfast dedication. I am trying my best to prove that by doing hundreds of hours of volunteer work, and while my academics are extremely good, relatively speaking with this combined degree bunch I probably look like a hobo on the street.

Sometimes I think as a race Indians could be alot better in America if they just made their own decisions.

Just my own little insight into the admissions process.

The MSU Med Scholar's site says (in big red letters) that admission notifications will be mailed out March 22nd. :)

Does anybody know when the very first application is available?

Usually by the end of August, but if you want to look at one I have a copy of the app from last year.

Highschooldoc- With your stats I am sure you'll get admission somewhere. I have been placd on alternative list for MSU. Is there any chance for me or not. Also, why do you say MSU is a great program.
