MSU2UofM

I am curious as to what would be the best way to approach a transfer to U of M. I think my U of M GPA is around a 3.5, and my ACT is a 32. I took 3AP's junior year and 4 senior. 5's on all AP scores. a competitively selected position as president of a make a diff. organization, and, first secretary then vp of model UN. Also, varsity track junior and senior year. very good pole vaulter. In state. I don't think I will get into U of M because of my GPA. I want to do either pre-med or neuroscience as I would like to become a brain surgeon after med school. Would it be a bad idea to go to MSU my freshmen year and reapply to U of M. Would I get the transfer credits? or would I have to start over? I am also applying to U of Chicago, JHU, northwestern, and kalamazoo, maybe Wayne state pre-med. Any advice? thanks.

My friend, who is currently a sophomore at MSU, got accepted to U of M and is transferring there next semester. She got somewhere between a 3.8 and 4.0 (I can't remember exactly) her freshman year and is getting transfer credits.

I would definitely recommend applying to U of M this year anyway, because you have good stats. However, if you don't get in, MSU might be good as a safety since it is possible to transfer with credits. You should check with the U of M admissions office though, because different courses (my friend is majoring in English) probably have different requirements for transferring with credit.

Yup. Apply anyways, but an MSU->Umich transfer is always feasible. It is just nice getting in straight off the bat.

I think you have a great chance of getting in. Your gpa may not be very high but your ACT score is and your EC's are excellent. Work really hard on the essays and you'll have a very good chance!
