is anyone familiar with the MSW program at UCLA in regards to the acceptance rate? how competitive is their master in social work? thank you.

I do not attend UCLA (I’m currently at Michigan), but from what my friends have told me, the social work program at UCLA has a competitive admissions process (the school did not use their wait list this year so that surprised and disappointed many applicants.) I believe the program also considers GRE scores.

I did not attend UCLA, but I applied and was accepted to their MSW program. It’s a good quality program at a good price if you’re in-state. As tenisghs said, their admission is competitive (I remember reading around 25% acceptance rate when I applied), and they do require GRE scores from all applicants. One important thing to know about UCLA is that they’re fairly research oriented. They require three semesters of research as well as more policy than many programs.

How important is the consideration of GRE score you think? and research as in hands-on or courses from undergrad study?

I don’t believe the GRE is a very important factor in admissions at all, provided you have some sort of bare minimum respectable score (say, 1000 combined). As for research, as long as you’ve taken some sort of research methods class in undergrad you should be fine. You don’t have to conduct any research to be competitive, you just have to be willing to take 3 semesters of research while in the program and to conduct a small research project at your 2nd year field work placement.
