It happens nearly every year at CMU and Ithaca.
Yes CMU has a lot of crossover in their faculty and in their classes. The MTs take Acting class with the Acting majors and so on. I am not familiar with the set up at Ithaca. As I said, it would be the exception to what is generally done at the majority of programs.
…and Otterbein and a host of other schools not listed. We see it happen every year. @marg928 is family here and we’re interested in her daughter’s journey
And at NYU too. Now, there is the choice there to check “MT only” or “all studios” on application, but I do know of people who checked “MT only” and have been contacted afterwards to see if that was a hard line, and ended up in acting studios. Either way, panel kids audition for represent acting and MT staff
In any event, last time when I was on here with my S in 2013, it was verboten to have anything other than an MT program on the list. On my D’s journey now. All good. Good luck to all.
To avoid confusion, just add Acting in parentheses to the acceptance list. I did the same in 2013. My daughter was accepted to several acting programs from MT auditions.
Yes, @Jkellynh17 is correct with regard to Ithaca. Every year, some students who audition only for MT get offered (and accept) an Acting slot. There is a lot of crossover between Acting and MT, and they do their showcase together. In fact, one Acting student this year is doing a song and monologue at showcase. But, bottom line is that it is a fairly regular occurrence…
