MT Acceptances for 2022 - by College

Congrats @mommafaria!

Congrats @mommafaria! My S was waitlisted. I was wondering if your S was the one from MTO that was accepted, but he’s not the one I know of now that I know you’re from RI. The MTO kids have a group chat going, and not everyone has responded, but so far it sounded like 2 kids (1 boy, 1 girl) from MTO were accepted and 2 (1 boy, 1 girl) were waitlisted. So at this point, I know of 3 accepted including you.

@speezagmom I know of one more girl who was accepted yesterday.

My D was waitlisted at BW for MT. She knows of two girls who were accepted. she’s not hearing much about waitlisted and I wonder if kids are less likely to reveal that. thoughts? Also curious to hear from veterans what to think about the waitlist-- reiterate interest and move on? we’re keeping things as positive as possible b/c that’s what’s needed for audition season!

@fingerscrossedMT kids certainly get in off the waitlist. @kategrizz has spoken about her D’s experience more than once here. Her D is a current senior in program who was waitlisted. She can probably provide you with insight.

@fingerscrossedMT a BW waitlist from Fall audition is a good thing. Absolutely-notify them of interest (if it’s her top choice, she should tell them so), and keep going.

@fingerscrossedMT I agree that you shouldn’t be discouraged by a BW waitlist from the fall audition. My D is a senior MT who was waitlisted in the fall, but accepted when decisions went out in the spring.

@fingerscrossedMT Indeed my D was waitlisted from a fall audition. She did not receive an offer until mid April… so while it’s good news to make the wait list… you will want her to seriously consider other acceptances she receives along the way… as you will want to be close to a decision if that April call doesn’t materialize. It varies from year to year, but there are nearly always 1 or 2 accepted from the waitlist each year. Definitely send a thank you to all who were in the audition room expressing her continued interest! We did that. Good news is she received full merit scholarship despite late admission… bad news is she had very little choice in housing!

very helpful, thank you all! My D sent a note of gratitude for the WL but felt she had to ride a line of not putting them on the spot. Sounds like she should be more explicit when she next checks in.

My D was accepted into BW as early decision (she did attend MTO that summer), and is now a freshman MT at Michigan. There were several people pulled in off the waitlist at both schools last year, so good luck to all!

Having been through this before (and knowing all too well the nervousness you are feeling!!) I can offer a bit of unsolicited advice!

I’d suggest getting a fun photo of your child (that shows a different side from their headshot) and then have greeting cards (not postcards) made as Thank You notes. You can put a photo on the front and on the back of the folding card. Send out your hand-written audition Thank You notes within 2 weeks of their audition, but then wait until January/February to send out the new photo cards to the schools you are very interested in. This will show your continued interest in the program closer to their decision-making time, as well as showing them another side of your student.

And don’t be afraid to tweak your audition package if you aren’t getting the results you want!!!

My D told me at Mich they had to present their audition packages to their classmates. The directors told them the best thing you can do to ensure a good audition package is to make sure you love the material, and that everything you do shows a different side of you! Her song and monologue package showed her as a tender mother; a confident and bold working girl; an awkward teenage school girl; and a lonely high schooler. Then at the audition when they picked a song for her to sing from her book, they picked a Disney princess song. So in that short time she showed them a wide range of parts she could play.

Hope this helps!

I am not having luck with the cutting and pasting, I apologize but my daughter got her first Early Action acceptance. It’s Baldwin Wallace- BFA Acting. It’s a young program but she loved the Masterclass very much. So we are so happy and good-by safeties (that she was so not into). Breath…whew. Today is a good day.

@laylamom YAYYYYYYYYYY! Congrats to both of you!! Great news!

YAY, @laylamom ! Congrats!

A good day, indeed @laylamom!

@laylamom congrats on the acceptance to BW. It’s an awesome school and people are so incredibly helpful. Again congrats!!!

@DrowsyChaperone may I ask what made your daughter choose UM over BW and when she received the audition results for UM?

@mommafaria we didn’t have that choice to make, but BW and UMich are vastly different kinds of schools, so I would guess that it had a lot to do with fit, and what her D wanted out of her college experience. UMich is a HUGE public university (we live 30 minutes from campus, my D has several friends in a variety of majors there) big football culture, emphasis on the liberal arts education = more requirements outside of the major and the degree is a BFA. BW is a small private school. The biggest event on campus is the Bach Festival… not the football team. . The degree is a BM, and housed in a conservatory, which = less classes outside of her major. There is nothing bad or good about either experience… but different kids want different things out of their college experience! If your S has the choice to make, I would highly encourage a return visit to both campuses so he can decide which environment feels like the better “fit”for him!

I would also add that UMich is ranked as one of the top public universities in the world…

@mommafaria Yes of course! She LOVED her summer at MTO working with Vicky and Scott, but ultimately she wanted a big college experience with football games and a huge campus.

And she got her BW decision on December 6th and her Mich decision on March 9th. Unlike some schools like Syracuse who roll out decisions on Fridays throughout March, Michigan made all of its acceptance phone calls on the same day.

@kategrizz we’ve visited both schools multiple times and like you said they are vastly different programs. I hope we are given the opportunity to choose from both programs. So… UM makes its calls the first week in March, what about CM? Do you know when calls will be made?
