I think my daughter got an " unofficial " acceptance at
Unifieds? He gave her his card and said he could offer her instate tuition and that he was very interested . But I’m not sure … Don’t want to get our hopes up. Any one know how we should take this ?

We have a few of those. I believe they generally work out - but we are hesitant to believe before it comes in writing. Sounds very promising! Good luck.

My D had a similar experience - here’s my card - we really like you and can offer you in-state tuition. While it was very flattering, I assume that doesn’t change the formal notification process so we wait for the “big envelope” (or email - which takes away a bit of the fun).

Thanks! Good to know!!

I was just wondering why are we making this list of who’s been accepted where? Does knowing that someone’s son/daughter received acceptance from College “X” help others in anyway? If it’s just a “share the good news” thing, I guess I can see that. But seems like it will just cause further anxiety for those who have not been accepted yet. Just my 2 cents. Congratualtions to all of you!
(P.S. My D got a yes from her top two choices today. So we are doing our happy dance here!)

I really enjoy seeing all the acceptances roll in! Congrats to all.

@daughtersdreams I think it is certainly a congratulatory thing but in addition it helps us gauge when the offers are going out …and it also tells us how many have been made.

I do have to ask about the BW notice as we were told all those applying would be notified on March 10th? Is that a 2015 admit date?

@sbc-We were told email on March 10th for BW. Though I believe some were given early admits.

@daughterdreams I think it’s partly so we can congratulate one another. But it also is a way for people considering the same school to connect with one another, or with people already at the school, and to share information. So, what are your daughter’s acceptances? Please share so you can be congratulated, too!

Agreed @boatmom. Congratulations @daughtersdreams! I hope you will share your D’s successes with us. We want to celebrate with you! And, I hope you will also share with us on the Journey thread. I created it yesterday, modeling it after past years, because it helps put all the acceptances in perspective. Chances are your D has been denied somewhere or will be denied somewhere along the way. And, if not, she’s one of the lucky few. Posting to the Journey thread helps us all understand the process better and perhaps lets us see how there are many different paths to get to the same place. The MT major is clearly one of the very most competitive majors out there, and it involves so much subjectivity. An admission is not based on numbers. Finally, many of us came to this board clueless, trying to find answers. That would be me. I’m grateful to those who have been very open about the ups and downs of applying to these programs, the ins and outs of the specific programs, and what has happened since being admitted. Congratulations again!

Looking forward to reading (and posting to) the Final Decisions Background Class of 2020 thread when that starts!

The Final Decisions Background thread is great but it doesn’t provide any support for those going through it. It’s good for next year’s class. And you might notice that many don’t post on it. My guess is they are so tired by the time it’s all said and done that they just want to move on. Any news for you @cklooking? I wish you the best!

@HappyDancer98 - I disagree about the background thread. You are correct in that it won’t “change” things for this year’s class - after all, it’s about the end rather than the beginning. But I think it provides tremendous support - if for no other reason than it shows that EVERYONE has challenges along the way. Everyone gets rejections, and I think it can be a comfort when you have a stinging one, to see that you are not alone in that boat. I personally find the labyrinth of yeses and nos ( a kid who gets into X but not Y, a kid who gets into Y but not X) etc fascinating. And for those lucky enough to have acceptances to chose from- it is interesting to see how people make that final decision.

You are correct that not everyone writes one- and of course that is their prerogative. But IMHO - they are interesting, as well as valuable.
