My daughter will be beginning the audition process for next year (graduates 2020), and we are thinking of hiring an audition coach. Does anyone have experience with Tim Evanicki (The College Audition) or CAP (College Audition Project)? I think Mary Anna Dennard is too expensive for us. We are leaning towards Tim Evanicki, but I’m not sure about his track record. Any input would be great!
I went through this awhile ago with my child. We never had a coach but we had lots advice along the way. And did summer intensives and summer precollege programs. I would say if you need help crafting a reasonable lists of colleges or help with scheduling either of these services appear to be good. My favorite recommendation is a summer college program because it really helps you get a feel for what the next 4 years will look like.
@Trudy Seneca I do not know much about Tim. My son used MTCA and they were a blessing for us! Their services are Ala Carte so they can certainly work within a budget
We also used MTCA and they really made the process run smoothly with little stress. Also, my daughter’s Director for MTCA recommended all 6 of her acceptance/waitlist schools so he really knew her and the programs very well.
thanks for the info. She did TPAP 2 summers ago and found it really helpful. I don’t know much about MTCA, but I will definitely look into it. We decided this morning not to use CAP (just don’t get a good vibe from them). It seems like Tim is very knowledgeable, but since he’s new on the scene, I’m not sure if that will hurt her in the process. So many decisions to make - and we are just at the beginning of this journey!
We used Chelsea at My College Audition and loved the experience. They are a la carte as well.
There are a lot of great options. I really liked MCA’s emphasis on helping with school selection, material selection, and general relaxing and being yourself throughout the audition process…
BAL to you as you begin this fun and rigorous journey!
I second everything @artandtechmom said about MCA.
If your daughter did TPAP, she knows Dave Clemmons, one of its co-founders. Dave has his own coaching program that is starting to mirror the bigger ones, including a unified audition in Atlanta and a web based database of information on MT schools.
Highly recommend MTCA. We used them for dance coaching, bi-weekly college prep dance classes, a number of master classes & their mock audition. Very supportive through the whole process.
Where are you based?
We used MTCA and loved them. If we had lived in or near Texas we would have probably used Mary Anna/Moo from College Audition Coach and I’m sure would have been pleased as well…know many people that have used her and were happy (I think being in proximity or accessible to Texas would be helpful from what I’ve heard).
I’ve heard great things about Dave Clemmons and I think he is out of Atlanta.
I’ve looked at results posted by College Audition Coach, CAP and MTCA and all had lots of students committing to great schools. There are lots of other great coaches out there - those are just the ones I saw that listed their students and where they were going.
We liked Dave Clemmons a lot. D met him at TPAP and decided to stick with him. I don’t think she would have had the same options without his help!
@“Trudy Seneca” Just curious what was it about CAP that turned you off?
We used Mary Anna. She was wonderful to work with.
