MT BFA & Engineering Dual Degree Confirmed

It has been a while since I have posted, as most everyone here knows how time consuming the admissions/audition process for college can be.

Many of you may recall the extensive discussion about a student possibly pursueing a dual degree in MT and Engineering.

Thanks to all of you that encouraged us to ask the tough questions and do the research, I am happy to report that we have written confirmation of my s being offered admissions to the Univ. of Michigan for a dual degree MT BFA and Engineering.

I am also happy to report that of the 5 schools that my s applied/auditioned to, he was accepted to all both academically and artistically. We could not have done this without the help of all of you and of course the hard work that my s did to accomplish this goal.

The decision making process now begins.

Good luck to all who are doing this along with us. Congrats class of 2013 wherever you may land :)

britbrat1961 - Congratulations to you son on all of his acceptances! It looks like everything has worked out well for him as far as the double major. Good luck to him in college.

Brit, congrats to your son, that is quite an accomplishment. I would ask you to stop in from time to time and let us know how he is doing. I am curious to see how he will be able to juggle two such demanding programs. It will be a challange, but he must be up to it to be accepted in both! I think it would be of help for others considering a similar option.

Thanks srw…it is my understanding that there will be two advisors, one from each program carefully planning the curriculum and that Engineering will bend to MT for the first 2 possibly 3 years and then it will switch toward the end of the MT program with engineering being the focus. Having a large amount of AP credits in the math and sciences is also very helpful, as it enables the student to eliminate some of the lower levels of these subjects.

As I said, this is certainly not the traditional path, but for a person who is both right and left brain thinking, it is an important part of keeping a healthy balance and we are very grateful for programs that allow such a challenge.

We were pleasantly surprised that when my s was interviewed at his auditions and was honest about his dual passion that it did not deter the auditioners decision to accept him into the MT programs.

This can truly be an inspiration to any or all of those who have been told that they cannot or should not follow a dream no matter how challenging.

I will certainly report back as the journey continues.

Thanks again for you support. :)

britbrat1961 - Congratulations to you and your son for a great audition season! It’s wonderful to know that he’ll be able to pursue both of his dreams in college!

britbrat1961,
