Soozievt!
I tried private messaging you, but your storage space is apparently full. Would you mind private texting me? It's so cool you're from Cherry Hill!

Raphael, my PM box fills up constantly (not to mention my email). I prefer email though. Click on my name to email me.

Yes, her job is performance related - but to keep the Disney magic" alive, they are not allowed to say who they portray.

S will be at Light Opera Oklahoma in Tulsa. Sweeney Todd, The Music Man, Naughty Marietta, Trial By Jury.

The short answer - yes, once you get an Equity card, you are limited to auditioning for Equity shows, or theatres that have an agreement for Equity guest artists.

There's an exception to that rule. Current students with their equity cards can still perform at school. This includes grad students.

True - school shows can be exempt -- I was referring to professional or community theatres.

Very cool (or hot, depending on her costume :)). Again, please come back and tell us about her experience. Thanks ... and hope she has a wonderful summer.

Change of plans... I'll be at Cole Bean Bay Summer theatre. It's a new summer stock theatre south of St. Louis. I'm playing Benjamin in their production of Joseph. They give out EMC points too so I'm really excited about that.

My S will just be doing the rec summer musical theatre with all his H.S./college-bound friends, and for money, he'll be doing mystery dinner theatre in the Philly area. This is a great gig, since it pays (yay!), and it also hones in his improv skills. Just recently, he played a gay guy wanna-be transsexual. He was the red herring. He had a blast.

My D will be playing the role of Maria in "West Side Story" at Bucks County Playhouse (New Hope, PA), May 23-June 10th. Following that she will be playing the role of Tuptim in "The King and I" at Bucks' sister theatres, Washington Crossing (Titusville, NJ) and Pocono Playhouse (Mountainhome, PA). She is thrilled beyond belief to play both of these roles, although I have to admit, it makes me a little sad that she will have to give up going through graduation since rehearsal starts 2 weeks prior to that:(. The good part is that she will be finished by mid July, still be able to get to summer orientation at B-W, and be able to have some down time at home prior to leaving for her freshman year!

Song4U's D- Bucks County Playhouse (New Hope, Pa) West Side Story (Maria) / Washington Crossing (Titusville, NJ) King and I (Tuptim) / Pocono Playhouse (Mountainhome, PA)

Song4U-
New Hope is an absolutely wonderful place to be in the summer!! We love our days there! Poconos and New Hope are our "stomping grounds"...a beautiful part of the country. Very quaint area!

Congrats to your d!!!

Song4U - My D has also opted to miss her graduation for an opportunity to perform in a pro production. It was a difficult adult decision (she actually wrote one of her college essays about the dilemma!), but it was definitely the right choice for someone who is serious about performing.

They're so ready to be grown up, aren't they? Yet now that graduation plans are being discussed at school, there are definitely some twinges of sadness for her, and for us. In some ways this is an early taste of the personal sacrifices that our theatre kids will have to make! Nobody said that this road would be easy ...

But enjoy these triumphs! Your D must be thrilled with these wonderful roles, and she'll have some time with her friends before she takes off. And my D will get to go to her prom!

Mizlyn and Notfromme

Thanks for the good wishes! Although my d is thrilled at this opportunity, it is a little bittersweet for me. My older d had worked at Bucks and Poconos 6 years ago so I am familiar with the area and agree that it is charming. It will be fun to return and watch my youngest d in WSS and King/I.

Mizlyn, my d too, wrote an essay on all the sacrifices she had made while pursuing this Art that she loves. And it wasn't until she actually had it all in print that she really realized just how much of a "normal" high school life, she had given up. But she wouldn't have it any other way.

She did get to go to her prom and her final big "ta-da's" will be the Thespian Banquet tonight and the Choir Banquet on Monday, as a week from today her HS days will be over, and she will start a new phase. Right now my list just keeps getting longer with all the things that need to be done before she hops on a plane next Saturday...YIKES!!
