Mt.Holyoke better than Boston College in Pre-med? Please help

Hey guys, my friend is down to two choices. Mt.Holyoke(all girls liberal arts schools 700 ppl 1st year) vs. Boston College(2300 people)

She really wants to go to medical school, probably her best choice right now, and from what i see, the % of graduates from mt.holyoke who go to med school is only 1%, which is around 6-7 people, which is extremely low compared to the 2% of Boston college, which is around 50 people)

Is it obvious that he chances of goin to med school are higher if she does pre-med/works really hard/high mcat score/clinical experience IF SHE GOES TO BOSTON COLLEGE over mt.holyoke?

Thanks for opinions guys!

The answer is not found by looking at how many go on to med school. It would be partially answered by knowing how many applied to med school vs. how many were accepted.

I say partially answered because schools who want to use the acceptance ratio as a marketing tool have the ability to restrict how many people are allowed to apply. If they want a 100% accept rate they have to allow only high stat "sure things" to make it as far as sending applications. The others are told they are ill suited for med school and, in the worst cases, denied the vital letters of recommendation from the college. Unfortunately the threshold of "sure things" has to be so high that there are plenty of marginal candidate that have a shot at admission but will not be given the chance.

All that being said, and liberally giving Mt. H and BC the credit that they never manipulate admission stats, the main thing to look for is a robust Pre-Health Profession Advisory group. Counseling and guidance along the way is key to successful med school admission. Since you say your friend will work hard, get good grades and MCATS,... the only variable will be whether she gets the guidance to complete the package (medical related service, research, showing a life beyond science...).

If she will be happier at one school over another- GO THERE. The final grades will be higher where ever you are more content. Higher grades = more likely acceptance.

If the happiness factor is =, go for the better PHP advisory group.

It will be the best shot they've got and they won't mind the ride along the way.
