I hope someone can answer my question...

I am interested in both these schools and have to decide very soon.
I want to study International Relations and International Business, as
well as languages. I also want to succeed.

I've gone to pretty tough private schools all my life, and I'm a good
student (3.4) lots of math, sciences, language, etc. Some say if I
was at public school I'd have an easy 4.0, but who's to say?

Which school is tougher or easier? I love them both, for different reasons.
My heart leans more toward Mt. Holyoke, but I need to know that I can
make it there. My college counselor told me that Freshmen get "one" chance
at the scholarship and aid money, so that's a big reason for my questions.

Does anybody have knowledge of these two schools? Pro's/Con's? Tough/Tougher?
Tough/Easy?

Thank you!

Funny, I am in the same boat. Accepted at both and see positive and negative aspects of each respectively. From the moment I heard about their study abroad requirement I was intrigued with Goucher. Similarly, I am very interested in the amount of diversity at Mount Holyoke and the array of opportunities they offer.
Like you I would say I am a decent student (3.5 UW) and am strong in Humanities and Foreign Languages. The Financial Aid at each has been less than favorable, which has become increasingly concerning as finances may be the decision maker.
I have grown up in a family full of MHC women and have always loved their traditions and sense of community while the international opportunities Goucher offers are incomparable to any other college I have visited.
In terms of academics, I don’t think it would be fair to “rank” them but I know that MHC has demanding yet rewarding academics. You definitely have to work for good grades. I do not know much about Goucher but assume that the curriculum will challenge you in different ways depending on your course selection. As far as location goes, I think they are pretty much both equal, Goucher is within proximity to Baltimore and while MHC is in South Hadley (not a very lively town) it has larger towns like Amherst and the Five College Consortium around it.
In short, I have fallen in love with both of these places and know it will be a very tough decision, best of luck to you too! Hope this helps a bit…

summer11 and WestCoaster 2, I would suggest you visit both if at all possible. My son is a sophomore at Goucher and loves it. Goucher is in Towson, a suburb of Baltimore. It is within walking distance of restaurants and shops. The campus is lovely; 300 acres of parkland and wilderness to roam. My son had excellent stats like you both. He is a dean’s scholarship recipient. He felt his first semester freshman year was not that hard, but the coursework has been much more challenging since. He is an English major and has had professors that he felt were interesting and accessible. If you are looking for name recognition, of course MHC has that. It probably ranks higher in many of the college guide books. Although since Goucher appeared in “Colleges that Change Lives” more people seem to know about it. I wish you both luck with your decision. I don’t think there is a “wrong” choice.

he felt

Mt. Holyoke is MUCH tougher academically. women who graduate say grad school is a breeze compared to the work they did at MH undergrad.
