Mt Holyoke vs Agnes Scott

Hi, I’m a parent looking for some advice. Daughter has just been accepted off waitlist for Mt Holyoke. She was already going to Agnes Scott. We live in TN. Her areas of interest are political science, film and media, theater, screen and creative writing. She’s nervous about going so far to Mt Holyoke, but is thinking it might provide better opportunities in film/media and networking for internship/ jobs in those areas in NYC or Hollywood.

Caveat that I have no personal experience. My kid will be applying in the fall to both MHC and ASC.

My gut feel is that Atlanta is more likely to have film production going on than anywhere within a similar radius of South Hadley. Georgia actively courts production companies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_industry_in_Georgia

If MHC feels “so far,” Hollywood is going to feel even farther.

Has she looked at the specific course offerings at both colleges? Has she communicated with the career offices? Which would she prefer to attend if she changes her major?

You can probably get on to the Mt Holyoke parent facebook group…might get some helpful answers.

I am a Mount Holyoke alumna. I understand that the film studies program at Mount Holyoke is very strong. While the new president at Agnes Scott is an alumna of Mount Holyoke, I suspect that she would agree that Mount Holyoke would be the better choice. Mount Holyoke’s politics department offers opportunities for prestigious internships in Washington as well as the Washington semester program which is an opportunity to spend a semester in DC with hands on academic involvement from the MHC Politics department. Nita Lowey '59 (D-NY) is the chair of the House Appropriations Committee and was an intern while a student at Mount Holyoke.
