Anyone have information about the MT minor at Montclair? How competitive is admission? If my dd attends, she will be in the BFA dance program, so minoring at all may be tricky. But she’d love a place where she could keep a toe in.
I would be interested to know this as well. My daughter will be in the BFA dance program as well.
We were on campus for a dance audition this past weekend and I can add this information we picked up:
- MT is a popular minor among dance majors, so it's definitely doable.
- MT and Dance are in the same department and most classes take place in the same building.
- Dance majors who are not MT minors can still take MT classes. It sounds like there is a lot of flexibility and willingness to work with students so that they can get the classes they want to take.
- Dance majors are allowed to opt out of the spring dance rep concert and audition for the spring musical if they like. I spoke to one student who had done this a few times.
- One of the common job paths for dance graduates is on national tours of musicals.
Bottom line, it seems like a good choice for a student who wants to get a degree in dance but also stay involved in musical theatre.
Hope this helps!
