MT Notification Dates and Methods Spring 2014

My notes are rough and incomplete, but I thought it might be nice to have a thread where we can list notification dates (acceptance offers and rejections) and methods (phone call, email, snail mail) of various MT schools if we've had firsthand information from a school official. It might be helpful if you know when financial aid offers come too (with the acceptance or later?)

Shall we keep them alphabetical by college name? Just copy the list below, and add the colleges you know as well as any information you have in your post. Please feel free to fill in any question marks, make corrections, or give more specific info if you know the answers!

Adding Otterbein, Ithaca, and James Madison University based on 2013 notification methods:

Baldwin Wallace – Offers: sent via snail mail by 3/20. Rejections: Same time as wait list and acceptance offers. Financial Aid notifications 2 weeks later.

Emerson – Decision: by Apr 1 via application portal.

Ithaca – Rejections: early March via ? . Offers come later. Acceptances posted on MyIthaca account, starting in late February and continuing in unpredictable pattern through March; rejections seemed to be communicated by disabling the student’s MyIthaca account.

James Madison University: Acceptance to university on admissions portal; official letter from theater/MT program arrived 1-2 days later; my son also received an e-mail from program director telling him he would be getting an acceptance letter from the theater department.

NYU/Tisch – Decisions by Apr 1st via email. 2 weeks later for which program.

Otterbein–The arts admissions coordinator calls accepted students directly on their cell phones. Last year it was on March 13th. Official letter including scholarship information came a few days later. Not sure about notification for waitlist–those might get phone calls too?–rejections, I believe, come by mail.

Just a word about Carnegie Mellon: last year my D received her rejection at the same time as everyone else, but they don’t notify people on the waitlist until a week to ten days later. She was very disappointed that she was rejected, but a week or so later received an e-mail saying that she was on the waitlist! (They only accepted 5 girls out of almost 2000 applicants but it’s still so hard for these kids not to get their hopes up!! She was elated to make it to the waitlist which apparently was very short. None of the few girls on the waitlist got off of it). So my point is that all is not over is you receive a rejection notice…

Does anyone know how Ball State does notifications?? I just noticed on application summary it has all the data and says decision made…admitted to BSU. It also lists BFA as the program and Musical Theater. There is an "I accept offer "button on the bottom. Does this mean D was accepted?

If anyone has Point Park notification info, would you please post? Thanks :)

Point park: Comes by mail- they will not give decisions over the phone, even if the mail gets lost (this is why we found out so much later than the initial wave. D auditioned in November.) The first three audition dates have been notified. I am not certain when the remaining dates will be sent.

Ithaca is following new procedures this year and has a new department head, so you can’t necessarily go by what happened last year.

The only thing Ithaca said was that declines would know in 2-3 weeks. I don’t recall a method being mentioned. They will wait to see everyone. The new head (who I really liked) said that it would be horrible to get to the final audition and there are only two slots left, so no acceptances before the last audition is complete.

GSOMTMom I agree. Really like the new head too. Does anyone know when the last audition will take place?

February 22nd. I just happen to be on their website right now.

Dreamgirl1,

Ball State typically makes all decisions regarding the Musical Theatre, Acting, and Dance BFA programs by March 1st. Departmental scholarship info will be shared by mid-March. Notifications for accepted students will happen with a personal phone call (generally by me)…this is the case as well with the waiting list students. Rejections happen via snail mail. The decision sheet you may have seen probably refers to University acceptance and the student’s indicated major of choice. Hope that helps!
