MT Notification Dates and Methods Spring 2014

My D’s portal has said that since early January & then she received a snail mail academic acceptance about 3 days after it changed. That was 2 months ago, and her audition was last month so I don’t think the portal status means much.

@maMTma That decision notification is for academic acceptance, I think. Mine was changed at the time of my academic acceptance.

Regarding Pace, one boy tweeted about being accepted several days ago. So it does appear that they have sent out at least 1 acceptance for BFA musical theatre.

Re Pace: the portal status is definitely for the academic acceptance.

Pace still has one more day of auditions on campus today.

One of my S’s friends, a male, received his PACE acceptance on Friday. I am not sure when he auditioned but when we saw him at Otterbein 2/1 he had already auditioned.

MTMajorCook: acceptance to university (which have definitely gone out) or to MT program?

I just talked to him, he got his FA package so erase erase

My S was accepted academically to Pace in early January, well before he auditioned on NY Unifieds weekend. Maybe his portal has been showing that same message since then? As we all know from CC, many schools that say they don’t notify anyone until a certain date and/or after all auditions are finished will still make on-the-spot offers to selected students or give acceptances ahead of the “official” date, so I thought it was worth asking.

Carefully copy and paste the list AND the instructions. Add your info so that it appears in red. To use red, you would post it like this BUT YOU CANNOT HAVE ANY OF THE SPACES INSIDE THE BRACKETS SO REMOVE THEM:

Baldwin Wallace – Offers: sent via snail mail by 3/20. Rejections: Same time as wait list and acceptance offers. Financial Aid notifications 2 weeks later. At least one acceptance reported on 2/28 from a 2014 audition date.

Ball State University – Offers are extended by March 1st. Waiting list students selected the week following. All students accepted and/or on waiting list will be called directly and receive a snail mail letter. Rejections are sent out on a rolling basis. Scholarships are determined by the middle of March.

Boston Conservatory – Offers: late March to early April. In the past, offers came via email with a link to click, which reveals the acceptance letter. It seems not all acceptances came in one batch, but over a few days. Rejections: ? Financial Aid notification: ?

Carnegie Mellon – They call the kids who are accepted in the 3rd week in March. Everyone else finds out via snail mail that they’ve been rejected or wait listed. There appears to be a priority wait list and a regular wait list.

CCM - this year seems to be different than previous. Online status updated first, followed up by snail mail. Accepted students receive an email from Aubrey Berg shortly after online status is updated. (comment) My S’s online status is unchanged, despite having received an acceptance email from Aubrey Berg last week Rejections have been sent a week or 2 after audition. A few offers made this year with the majority still at no decision at this time. Later update: Looks like several students who had heard nothing previously, received “no admission at this time” updates via Check my Status on last Friday of February, 2/28, this year.

Coastal Carolina – Decisions: Rolling. Some offers/rejections sent after the November on campus auditions; most students deferred. For 2014: Deferred students from the fall and all those who auditioned in the spring (on campus and in Chicago) will be notified BY Friday, March 21st. All notifications will be sent via email from Department Chair, Ken Martin, and accepted students may also receive a phone call. You must be academically accepted into the university before you are offered a spot in the program. Financial aid notification: Performing arts scholarships are sent with the offer. Academic scholarships are separate.

Emerson – Decision: by Apr 1 via application portal at 1pm EST according to the website.

Indiana – MId to late March

Ithaca – Rejections and offers: beginning mid Feb. A few offers and several rejections reported as of 2/28/14. Acceptances posted on MyIthaca account in unpredictable pattern through March; rejections communicated by USPS and disabling the student’s MyIthaca account. Like last year, some acceptances are being received within a few weeks after audition via snail mail.

James Madison University: Acceptance to university on admissions portal; official letter from theater/MT program arrived 1-2 days later; my son also received an e-mail from program director telling him he would be getting an acceptance letter from the theater department. Students admitted to the university EA will hear whether or not they have also been admitted to the program in early March. Students admitted to the university RD will hear whether or not they have also been admitted to the program shortly after they find out they are accepted academically to the university… usually by April 1. All academically admitted students to the university will receive a letter from the program. Some students admitted to the program may also receive an email notification or a phone call. Students who are not admitted academically to the university will not hear from the program whether or not they would have been admitted.

Marymount – snail mail, goes out in waves starting now (mid-Feb)

Montclair – rolling. Decisions about 3 weeks after audition. Apparently Montclair automatically considers MT applicants (some? all?) for their Acting program/major as well, and posts the Acting decision separately on the CheckMyStatus page from the MT decision, then follows up each online status with a snail mail confirmation.

NYU/Tisch – Decisions by Apr 1st after 5pm via email (per website). 2 weeks later for which program.

Otterbein–The arts admissions coordinator calls accepted students directly on their cell phones. Last year it was on March 13th. Official letter including scholarship information came a few days later. Not sure about notification for waitlist–those might get phone calls too?–rejections, I believe, come by mail.

Pace – Academic acceptances: Rolling. MT acceptances: by Mar 30 via phone call but Amy said they hoped for mid-March. MT Rejections: mid-late March via email. Scholarships offered with academic acceptance. Financial aid: ?

Penn State – Decisions: they have a team “decision Sunday” after the last audition, which this year is Sat, Feb 22. with acceptance notifications going out that week (via ?). Rejections for MT program from Chicago Unifieds have come via online portal. Rejections have also come via snail mail dated 4 days after NY Unifieds audition. The decision meeting has been the day after the last on campus audition in years past. Decisions are sent to the Admissions office the Monday after the decision meeting and Admissions sends out snail mail acceptances on Tuesday. The 12 to 14 accepted will usually receive them by the end of that week. Of course, this is not written in stone and I have no inside info - just going by what has happened the last 4 years. This year when my D was filling out her paperwork at the door they also got her to put her number on the sheet with a list of available times to call the number. The director said that would be used for acceptances but that emails could also be used. UPDATE: as of 2/19, myPenn application status portal changed to indicate application is being reviewed and a decision will be coming in the near future (speculations are for late Feb)

Point Park - Academic decisions are rolling. MT decisions 2 or 3 times per year via snail mail. This year it was end of January. Remaining decisions to be sent in two batches: one after their meeting on March 5 and the second after their meeting on March 15. Scholarships are sent with decisions

Rider - Seems to be rolling admissions… Quite a few students accepted/rejected already, to both acting and MT. Notification made via snail mail letter a few weeks after the audition date.

Roosevelt CCPA – Decisions: sent by mid-March via email. (decisions came late March last year). In a recent email correspondence with Amanda Horvath (admissions), she stated “_____ will hear from us via email after March 15.”

Shenandoah – One - two weeks after audition

Syracuse – Decisions: begin early March via email. In past years, acceptances and rejections seem to have gone out in waves on Fridays throughout March and early April, with no apparent pattern (that is, not alphabetically).

University of Michigan – Acceptances late Feb (according to some old notes from spring 2013 campus visit)

University of the Arts – rolling. Decisions about 3 weeks after audition.

Webster – last week of March for acceptances and rejections

Wright State - Rolling admissions - decisions by snail mail approx 2 weeks after audition

Anyone know about Texas State University? When people will hear?

tylerjohn, from what I know the acceptances went out the week after the final auditions (Feb 15/16) and they are waiting to see who accepts and who declines to go elsewhere. If you were on priority hold and have not received any other information, you are still on hold and that is a good thing!

I want to point out that many parents and students (including our family) have real confusion about acceptances
I spoke with a parent this weekend who said they received an acceptance letter from PACE and from Dyson School, and she assumed that meant their S was in the BFA.
But we received the same letter, and I would not take it to mean accepted into the BFA. and it explicitly says “Please note … two-stage acceptance process … you will need a second acceptance, based upon the results of your audition, which will be sent to you directly fromthe department once all the audition results are evaluated”

So when someone tweets or fb posts, or shares “ACCEPTED” - we can’t assume anything.

Regarding Pace - My D’s portal says “A decision has been made and your official decision letter has been mailed to you.” it has said that since early January even though she received an academic acceptance by mail shortly after that.

What ButterflyFX said… Very true

We got that same letter from Pace. Just days before, I had told my son that he was deluded, and that the email he had got from Aubrey Berg was not an acceptance. He just smiled, and said “scroll down and look for the big black letters saying ACCEPTED”. Sigh. Perhaps we are not always right. We are certainly very confused.

…and two more letters from Pace today, on to S, one to parents, congratulating us all on his place at Pace…

Pace tends to send out a lot of letters.

Got the financial aid package from Pace today too. Big envelope, clearly marked financial aid, so no panicking. Also got a no from BW but D was totally fine with that one after her yes from Ithaca.

Pace also sends out a lot of emails. Oh, and those phone calls. They make sure to reach out and touch all accepted students! LOL

Yep on Pace. Received the two letters and the big financial aid envelope today too.
