I’m currently a freshman BFA MT student at another university and am seriously considering transferring. I’m too far away from home and I want a MT program that is more developed in its curriculum. I was wondering what the freshmen in the Hartt MT program thought about it. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated thank you!

I know you are not asking for this kind of advice but…
I strongly encourage you to give your current program and school a real fair shake before even contemplating transferring and investigating other programs. Freshmen year JUST began. It takes a lot of time to get used to a new place, a new school, and new friends. There is a very likely chance that if you really put all your energy and positive thoughts and efforts into your current and brand new school, that by December, you will be as happy as a clam. If not, that is a time to put thoughts and energy into transferring and other options, which by the way, will be MUCH harder odds for admissions than freshmen admissions, and some schools may make you start again as a freshmen (more time and more money). Please give your current new college a chance! :)

Hey littleshop919! I’m a current Freshman at Hartt and am LOVING it! I felt at home as soon as I auditioned and I still feel the same. The curriculum is fantastic giving us not only core classes in dance, acting, and singing- but we also share music theory and ear training classes with the freshmen from the music division. Our ear training teachers are legit too, straight from Hungary- Gabor and Katie Viragh are the head ear training teachers and are WONDERFUL! I’ve already learned so much! Freshmen take Ballet for the year to really focus on technique and the nitty gritty- Ralph is amazing! He can literally take someone who has never danced and make them shine! He has really helped me by body placement as well. Our acting and voice and speech professors are still working as well. You’ll find at Hartt that all of our professors still get work and either perform or direct at professional theatres. It truly is an amazing place to be and a little theatrical home. Granted, it is a demanding program and we are being worked, but it is fantastic! If you are still displeased with your current school after thinking about soozievt’s advice, I strongly encourage you to come over to West Hartford and audition! Feel free to message me if you have any other questions!
