MT programs with prescreens

Is there a comprehensive list on CC or somewhere of all the colleges that do prescreens? If not, lets start one!!

Florida State U

Wright State offers one, but it is not mandatory. It can save time/money in travel to Dayton if you don’t pass the prescreen.

NYU has a prescreen? Is that new this year? Would that be for Steinhardt or Tisch?

Penn State

We heard Boston Conservatory is adding a prescreen this year? D did a master class over the summer with a faculty member.
Does NYU Tisch / Musical Theater have one? It doesn’t look like it from their admissions website, unless it isn’t updated yet.
Anyone know Shenandoah’s prescreen requirements?

@ac2680 Shenandoah’s prescreen application does not open until Sept 14th, but you can find what they will look for on their guidelines website and scrolling to Musical Theater (page 10) - https://q8rkuwu1ti4vaqw33x41zocd-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/admissions/files/2018/07/CON_Guidelines_2018-19_lr.pdf

@MTVTmom thank you!

@toowonderful NYU Steinhardt has a prescreen. At least it did two years ago when my daughter went through this process. If you attend the Steinhardt MT Summer program you are exempt from the pre-screen as it is an audition summer program. I can’t comment on Tisch but that’s the scoop on Steinhardt!

BoCo and Emerson are implementing prescreens this year. Hartt doesn’t mention a prescreen on their website- am I missing something? Others I can think of are University of Oklahoma, Syracuse, SUNY Fredonia, Millikin.

@toowonderful when looking for S, I came across what appeared to me to be a very convoluted process…they called it submitting via slideroom I think, then the monologue is done ‘live’ via skype-like process, and you need to be prepared to record the dance portion immediately after viewing the provided choreography. (Which can only be viewed twice, w no rewind or fast forward).

My apologies if I got any of them wrong…I started S’s spreadsheet last year sometime, and was working off of that. Please don’t use this thread as the only means re: prescreen list, as they seem to change every year. I originally had BW listed as having a prescreen, but when I went back to verify, it doesn’t look like they have one this year.

@lithpool - no big deal. my kid graduated from NYU Tisch this past May, I was just interested if they were making changes. Looks like it’s for Steinhardt - which is different

Hartt does not have prescreens.

NYU Tisch did not prescreen this last year at least. You did need to upload materials as part of your application but no prescreening!

My understanding is that Viterbo is not a prescreen, but just a step in application process. It is not selective, you just submit a portfolio and choose your audition slot.

Indiana University has prescreen.

Illinois Wesleyan has prescreen.

@lithpool We were confused by the slideroom submission last year as well. We thought it was a prescreen, but it is (or was) actually an option to audition by video. If you are going to audition live, you just put basic info into slideroom and schedule. We kind of got bit by that and had to contact the school to help us backup and start the process over so we could schedule the audition. I found the Tisch website and process to be extremely confusing, but the audition itself was a very warm and positive experience.

TCU and USC

Is there information on this board somewhere, or from those of you who know, regarding what % of total applicants typically pass a prescreen? Specifically for Ithaca, Syracuse, Boston Conservatory, Pace.?
