MT Rejections

Luv2croon - check out this thread for great info on the earlier date question:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/875533-school-not-abiding-may-1st-deadline.html

Thanks Soozievt, I always take great comfort from your posts. My daughter has a balanced list and has already been accepted academically to Elon and American. She is also kindof a BA MT kid with interests outside of mt so it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world not to get into a BFA program. It’s just that she has worked so hard at it and rejections feel more personal because they are putting themselves out there, so much more than just sending applications. I think that we parents suffer even more than they do.

My d was EA at Emerson so she found out in December. It was a great way to start the holiday season. Fortunately 2 days later she got an academic acceptance to Elon with $ so it took some of the edge off. Emerson was her “dream” school but I am glad she was rejected then and not deferrred and then rejected because the denial allowed her to move on and find a new dream-getting into a program that wants her!

These disappointments are very hard when they are happening (and yes, worse for the parents who can’t control these outcomes for their kids…so hard!), but truly, I can assure you, the bite of the rejections won’t matter in the near future. It just is very intense now while you are immersed in receiving all these decisions. It does get better! It really does! And no one particular school is the end all and be all. You can be happy at more than one place. The college decisions will be over very soon…fortunately!!

(though as a mom who is beyond this point…I can tell you this sort of thing never ends…there are summer jobs, internships, grad school, professional auditions, and the like and it starts all over again!!)

My D has heard from two schools and has been put on the MT wait-list for both of them- Ball State and Wright State. She also auditioned for a dance major at Ball State and they told her she should hear soon regarding that. I don’t know if wait-list is any better than a flat out rejection since we don’t really know what the chances are of getting moved from the wait list to a real spot. But I guess there may be a chance. We know even if she doesn’t make it into any MT programs, she still has a BA option at more than one school, so I guess we wait (like everyone else)!

Words of encouragement to those who’ve received only rejections thus far. That’s what happened to my D 2 years ago. She got rejected at the first 3 MT BFAs she auditioned for (before Christmas) and then went into the winter audition season with no acceptances or deferrals. It was torturous for me – but she handled it really well!

Then like magic … right around this time … she started getting acceptances. And boy did that make that first acceptance all the more sweet. And that first school was Syracuse MT on March 12, 2008 – and a great moment it was! So HANG IN THERE!!! It can happen AFTER ALL OF THESE MONTHS OF WAITING!!! (And that is indeed where she decided to go to school.)

You only have a few more days/weeks to go!!! You CAN make it through!!

Thank you for your words of encouragement NewbieMTMom. This is indeed torture. Can’t wait until this part is over.

It is frustrating to wait without knowing, but in 6 weeks, everyone will have made their decisions and the waiting process will be over! This is our 2nd time thru as my daughter started at a BFA program 2 years ago, left, and is now auditioning as a transfer. It isn’t as stressful this time because I think we know it will all work out just fine, but we do have to wait longer as transfers aren’t notified as soon as freshman sometimes. Good luck everyone!

Well I have to say this thread is pretty comforting during all this waiting!

I check the mail and i have a big envelope from Emerson with a letter that says “Congratulations! You’ve been accapted into Emerson’s 2010 fall class. Unfortunately our theatre program cannot accept you into the bfa program.”

Way to get a person’s hopes up then CRUSH them. oh well

Emerson definitely needs to come up with a better method - what a let-down!

Yeah. Penn State’s was just like that too.

My friend and I received our Emerson rejections by mail today. Good luck to the rest waiting to hear!

When my D applied to Emerson…similar thing happened…but it was Early Action and the big envelope with all the congrats stuff was in it and so we thought she got in. Only after reading through it, did we discover she was deferred for the MT program. So, the elation was over a mistaken understanding. Not fun.

My Emerson rejection came today, too.

Penn State’s letter was the nicest rejection letter I got haha. It was like sorry, you weren’t accepted to the BFA, but we still want you to come to Penn State! No thanks, though Penn State…

My birthday’s this weekend so some good news this week would be a nice present…

Sorry about the rejections everyone. We have had more than our share come to our house. But KEEP THE FAITH and hopefully you will all get great news soon!!

I am one who got rejected from 5 so far. But I’ve been realizing, (somewhat because of this site, and support from family, friends, and teachers) that initially, yes, it is hard to get rejected, but I expected this. I am extremely ambitious, but being rejected from a program with a 1% acceptance rate just comes with the situation! At this point, I’ll be ecstatic to be accepted to any of my remaining schools because they are all great! Do I wish I had auditioned at some of the places that I vetoed for stupid reasons, YES. After looking at some of those, I should have applied. But, it’s probably okay that I didn’t. Just as everyone has said, we’ll all end up where we’re meant to be. If that means doing a BA in Theatre Arts with a Dance Minor at Pace, then I can make that work. It’d be nice to hear good news though, because then I can know that someone out there other than me thinks I have potential like all of my supportive teachers and peers do. There are a hundred other girls out there who are 5’7", long brown hair, 140lbs, good singer, dancer, and actresses with plenty of Theatre involvement and summer programs. We all have to deal with that.

I’m kind of figuring this out for myself as I go through all of this, and I thank everyone on here who is supportive, you make it easier for me and a lot of us girls out there! And there’s a wealth of information on here for future applicants!

B-W Rejection today. Ah, well.

I got the Emerson rejection letter today, right before they updated the website. Ah well, I didn’t want to go there anyways. :)

Just thought I would post my D’s MT situation.

Received rejections from:
CCM (1st one and most disappointing, found out from the web site)
Florida State (rejection letter)
Wright State (the most curt rejection email ever!)

Still in the running letter from Otterbein

Nothing at all yet from CMU

But an acceptance letter from CCPA/Roosevelt!

It’s so strange how it all ends up. At Roosevelt, I was in the parent waiting room and heard D’s audition next door through the wall. Personally, I thought she didn’t sound as strong as I have heard her sing in the past but that’s where she has been accepted so far. At her Wright State audition (the last one of 6 or 7), she thought she had the best performance of them all and got the rejection. Go figure!

zoerphl, I feel you! I, too, am a girl, 5’7, long brown hair, 140lbs, good singer and dancer and actor.

I have been feeling pretty awful about myself recently…up until yesterday I had been
Accepted to:
Millikin MT (a backup)
Rejected from:
CCM MT
UMich MT
OCU MT (a backup!)

But yesterday I got an acceptance to Ithaca, and I realized so much of this is random!
