I am trying to assist my D in compiling her repertoire list (not audition songs but everything that she’s performed/studied). Is it necessary to list the songs for which she was the lead in a production?? For example: She has been a lead in Carrie, Hair, Oklahoma, Anything Goes etc etc…and these are all listed on her resume (which the colleges see when she applies). Wouldn’t it be “assumed” that any song related to these performances are part of her repertoire, or do they actually need to be listed individually? Any help is appreciated!
I think you are referring to the repertoire list required by schools like U of Michigan, yes? If that is what you mean, then, yes, include the songs she performed in those roles.
Thanks very much for replying. Yes, I was referring to UMich, although now that I look on their website is says that MT majors are exempt from having a repertoire list (even though they told my D via email that is was needed). This is the wording on their site: All applicants are required to submit a comprehensive list of repertoire studied on their principal instrument or voice. This is optional for those applying to the BFA programs in Media and Music Technology. Applicants in Dance, Musical Theatre, Sound Engineering, and Theatre are exempt. Guess I’ll have to call for clarification.
@chickisit I don’t believe we did that two years ago. I would have your daughter call.
It wasn’t a requirement when my S applied 4 years ago and we didn’t think it was applicable for MT this year. At best, it is not entirely clear!
Is this for prescreen? My S included no repertoire with prescreen materials. I did not see where it was a requirement, and it was never requested.
I think for UMich it states it’s not needed for MT. I remember reading that carefully with S while he was uploading his materials because at first it looked like it was required. I know FSU required one for their BM program and I think S listed about 15 songs that he felt totally comfortable if asked to sing them today.
I am calling right now to clarify. Thanks!
Answer: NO repertoire list required for MT majors.
