From the previous posts that I have read I seem to get the impression that Elon has rolling admissions. I’m planning to audition on March 13 (my birthday ), and I read somewhere that Elon has already filled most of its slots before the last audition date. So would this decrease my chances?

claydavis - although my D applied and was admitted EA, I can assure you that she has friends in the program that actually auditioned the very last day :D. So I would definitely not worry about "all the spots being filled"!

Most students are not notified that they are accepted into the MT program until after that last audition date. I know of one last year who was accepted academically and artistically in December. I would think then that you would have the same chances as everyone else, provided you've been accepted academically. Keep in mind that at Elon academic and artistic acceptance are separate, and we heard of a few rare instances when a student was accepted artistically, but not academically. Some students do early action just to get that academic acceptance confirmed.

clay - just be as specific as possible, my D was the one girl that was accepted academically and into the MT program last Dec. Along with her there were 2 boys offered acceptance at that time. I know one of them enrolled and is in the program now. The bulk of the acceptances (and I think that all include a personal phone call :D) take place after the last audition has taken place.

Clay,

You can audition on any audition date. It is true, as the pool increases as more candidates are seen, that it becomes increasingly difficult to "replace" candidates that may already be in the auditors' head. This is true at every audition you will ever attend - it is just human nature. Having said that - except for some few early admissions candidates, the decisions as to who the offer latters' go to is made after the final auditions.

Elon does not have rolling auditions. For academic purposes, there are 2 acceptance dates - one in Dec. (for EA) and the other in March.

It appears to me that MT admissions are notified immediately prior to those 2 dates, but as stated above, only a few are admitted to MT in Dec. My son has been forever grateful to have been in that group, so he knew about both academic and MT acceptance in Dec. The vast majority of MT acceptances are in March, which is after all auditions.

So if you are auditioning in November and you have already applied EA will you hear academically before you hear from the MT department or do they keep your file until the auditions are all complete?

In your situation, most likely your student will get a letter after all fall auditions are done and before hearing about academic acceptance (which comes in Dec.). Such letter will probably come out in very late Nov. or very early Dec.

This letter can be a yes, no, or maybe. It can be a reject, it can be an acceptance into MT (I understand there are relatively few of these), and it can be a deferral until spring, pending the outcome of all spring auditions. If this maybe occurs, your student will hear about MT at the same time that spring audition students hear.
