Since I am not completely done auditioning for BFA Musical Theatre programs (16 done! Woo hoo!), I was thinking I might as well apply now for programs in Canada, England, and Scotland. Although, I do not know of any schools in these countries. Please comment below if you know of any schools in these areas! I would love to expand my school options. Thanks.
You’re too late for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland-- They were auditioning at NYC and Chicago Unifieds.
MT programs in the UK include:
- Guildford School of Acting
- Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts London
- Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
See this website for information on some of the drama programs in the UK:

There are others not listed on this website, including LAMDA and the Royal Welsh Academy. Google to find more. As noted in the previous post, application deadlines for this fall may have passed.
Sheridan College in Ontario
The premier MT program in Canada is Sheridan but you are way too late for this year’s admission cycle.
With a few exceptions (like RCS), most UK conservatories don’t separate MT and Acting training as American schools do. Their philosophy is to train the ‘whole actor.’ So my S at LAMDA has dance and voice lessons, playwriting/ screenwriting, and the whole gamut of acting for stage and film. Performance-wise, they do opera, choral singing, and MT (on top of straight acting stuff).
For what it’s worth, here’s a “Top Five” list for UK schools. http://www.onstageblog.com/columns/2016/1/23/the-top-5-theatre-schools-in-the-united-kingdom
@mom4bwayboy thanks
@connections great to know! thanks for sharing!
@alwaysamom ok thank you.
@mom4bwayboy, these lists are always so subjective, but I feel I should say that the one you shared isn’t really a standard top five list for UK schools. Top 5 would always include RADA, Guildhall, LAMDA – then the other two are a matter of taste, what specifically you consider important. Also, some schools have much more brand visibility in the UK than here, and some schools are vice versa. So it would also depend on your end goal.
As I said - “for what it’s worth”. I’m not much of a believer in “Top ____” lists. The maker of the list always has his or her own agenda when creating the list. I basically just posted it as someone’s list of “names” to consider that may not be on everyone’s radar. If this was my search, I would be considering a bunch of different lists from multiple resources - but again, only to gather names of programs. Maybe my “list of valuable criteria” would line up with one particular list-maker’s list, but it’s unlikely. Posting requests for info on CC is one great way to be able to cross-reference other people’s “lists” and experiences. Kinda like making “stone soup” - there’s no way of knowing how the final mix will coalesce. Every taster is free to strain out their own icky parts - or add their own “mystery ingredient”.
@mom4bwayboy, yes, thanks for the clarification–These lists are definitely ‘for what it’s worth,’ agreed!
