There are a couple of Catholic schools on the East Coast- DeSales in Pennsylvania and Catholic U in DC that offer wonderful theater programs I’m not too familiar with Catholic, but DeSales was one of the schools my D considered- they do put on strong performances and seem to have really strong training and close theater community

We are going to see Thoroughly Modern Millie this weekend at Catholic U in DC.

elleleegreen - No one has yet mentioned Belmont University in Nashville if that would be considered a big enough city for your D’s interest. A very good MT program and the school would fit the conservative Christian profile you mention.

To each of you who took the time the offer suggestions, thank you so much! My d and I are looking at all of them. There are some wonderful schools suggested that we wouldn’t have looked into otherwise, and I know she’ll find one that’s right. Thank you for sharing your opinions and your experiences with us, it’s making this process alot less nerve wracking. This website is a godsend.

Take a look at Roosevelt University in Chicago. I know it’s not really eastern, but it’s definitely in a big city. Though I may be biased, I am a freshman there this year, and while I am very open minded, I’m not much into the partying scene. I have been about to find people here in my program who feel the same. Many people go to church on a weekly basis as well. So far, I have found the faculty to be very warm and supportive, and within our class, teamwork, ensemble building, and a sense of family are highly stressed. There seems to be a place for everyone here.

The rep from Roosevelt that we just met at a recent Performing Arts college fair was exceptionally helpful and kind-hearted. They have new “apartment like” dorms one block from the school, by the way. And an arrangement with a dance studio so advanced dancers can get advanced training. And public transportation is included in the tuition.

I second the person who mentioned Belmont. Nashville is supposed to be a great city, Belmont used to be affiliated with the Baptist Church (I’m not sure if they still are), and my son has worked with some very talented students and graduates of Belmont who are also wonderful people.
