MT workshop in CA with Brent Wagner (UofM)

Hello everyone,

My daughter attended this artist-in-residence workshop as a sophomore and again as a senior, at Professional School for the Arts in Torrance, CA. It is coming up again the end of May, and auditions are later in February. It is a 3-day workshop with Brent Wagner, who is head of musical theater at University of Michigan.

It is intense, he works with each participant individually on performing a song, there are only about 20 students in the workshop, so there is a lot of interaction with Mr. Wagner. He picks the song for each student, and they get informed of the song choice before the workshop begins so it can be worked on.

The auditon consists of a song and a short monolog; if you can't get to Torrance that day, they do accept DVD submissions.

More information about the workshop is on Professional School for the Arts - Torrance, California and if you have any questions, I'd be glad to try and answer them. You can also contact the school at the number on the website.

I'm sorry if I sound like a commercial - I'm just a mom, but I think this workshop is a great opportunity to get ready for college auditions and work with someone who really knows what he's doing!

Just wanted to second the quality of the PSA programs! My daughter just started taking class there (a Musical Theater Workshop class with Danny Gurwin) and it has been a great experience for her. Each week they work on a song, get feedback and have suggestions made for other songs to explore that would be good for their vocal and physical type. While, of course, the kids are past the stage where parents get to watch, I did happen to come to pick up my daughter and heard the tail end of the coach giving feedback as was impressed with the depth, direction and kindness the teachers showed. The owner, Lisa, is very attentive and helpful. It is all very professional. My daughter (a junior) feels like she is making progress and getting much more used to getting up and trying out different material. My younger daughter (a freshman) is going to start classes there as well. So, if you are in Southern Ca, you really might want to check out their spring and summer workshops.
