Does anyone know if getting in to MTAP is particularly competitive? The application only requires one essay and the rest of it is how many credits you're enrolled in, etc. I was just curious if anyone who has gone through the program knows. It'd be a bummer if I was rejected and had to spend another year at CC since my plan is to go to UMCP asap (Fall 2014). Thanks

I haven’t been on CC for a while, or I would have replied by now, but MTAP is not competitive that I know of… Just the requirements that are stated (3.0 GPA, at least 30 credits, maybe something else), nothing special other than being in the program at least one semester before transferring (or applying, not 100% sure). The catch, though, is that it guarantees you entry to the UMD system, if there’s space available. That shouldn’t be a problem if you apply early enough… and I believe in order to take advantage of the “guaranteed” admission, you need to apply by the Early deadline. Personally, I would apply as soon as I could.

I was admitted into MTAP before this Fall semester started, and am planning on applying well ahead of the deadline (as soon as Fall grades are posted, which should be before Christmas) for next Fall.

Good luck!

I applied for MTAP back in May and got accepted… In order to get accepted you need to have above a 3.0 at your current CC… The only advantage to MTAP is that you have guaranteed admission if you are accepted. However, after getting admitted to MTAP, you still have to spend one more semester at CC. So, example… I applied for MTAP in May, got acceptance letter in July. I applied for the Spring 2014 semester (priority- August 1), and I a currently enrolled full time at CC… the good part about MTAP is that it doesn’t hurt to apply.
- it’s free
- if you get rejected for mtap, you can still apply to the college for admission.

Personally, I did MTAP because I couldn’t stand the chance of NOT getting accepted.

Thanks for the replies. @foreverenigma that’s good news since I expect be above a 3.0 once they start reviewing applications. So when you did the transfer application by the priority deadline, how did you indicate you were in the program?

Hey Mdbred, when you apply online it asks you.
It’s part of the “Academic Information” tab

It’s all the way at the bottom and it asks
“Are you a Maryland Transfer Advantage Program (MTAP) participant?”
You have a yes or no option.
If you click yes, it asks you what partner school you are currently enrolled in.
