we belong together? its usually a slow song but they were doing the remix version which she apparently speeds up a lot. the remix sounds cool on the radio tho, just not so much live haha

Mariah didn't sound good on the remix. And weirdly, she missed out all the high parts of the song and went straight onto the extra high part - the squely screamy part which.. she can do well in..
I just wanted to see her sing the high parts :(

yeah me too. i love mariah. but i always thought that actually singing the remix wasn't a good idea, it's just way too fast.

kelly clarkson was screaming because she was trying to be more rock. didn't work.

I feel Mariah is trying to be somthing she is not. She used to be great. Now she is trying to be somthing else, She sucks.

hmmmm....getting a little racist here...

I have to say there was quite an influx of minority acts, but I just want GOOD music. It doesn't maqtter if they are this or that, just as long as it is good music.

With the Spanish guys, I had no idea what they were saying (even AP Spanish couldn't slolve that madness) and that didn't make sense to me.

They tried to connect with the Hispanics because they were Miami, so I could somewhat understand that.

Not being raciest at all, Just I wnated to point out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariah_carey

After 1998-1999 when the Transformation happened, when she tried to be a R&B artist, ok il say it when she tried to be black.

She has gone down the Drain. 230 Mil albums is impressive. but she doeant put up the numbers like she used to.

umm...the emancipation of mimi has been in the top 5 since it's been relased, ages ago (and i dont know why, because it suckss). we belong together was the most popular song of the summer, its like that was also a huge hit. mariah, for whatever reason, is on the top of her game right now

Has the album gone Diamond.

sorry but no. Nothing for the past 7 years has from her.

Nothing compared to Music box and daydream.

her past 4 albums barly made it to platinum.

actually only glitter and charmbracelet really didnt do that well in terms of mariah carey sales, for other artisits they would have been HUGE sales and sold 5 million and 4 million respectively world wide. Her album (4 albums ago) being Rainbow did very well and I wouldnt say it was bad. Rainbow went triple platinum and sold 10+ million ww and spawned 2 #1 singles.

i personally really like emancipation of mimi and think its the best since butterfly. of course her music now is much different from the amazing ballads she had on musicbox and daydream but she still has very good slow songs today that show her voice - fly like a bird, i wish you knew, joy ride and stay the night all show her voice. the album has gone triple platinum...

you cant really complain about triple platinum..most artists cant even get to triple platinum and platinum is a huge accomplishment. very few artists have ever gone diamond, let alone have multiple diamond records.

we belong together is actually the biggest single release to date and broke many records. its still number 1 and it might beat mariah's other record with one sweet day. shake it off is currently at number 2. even though you dont like mariah's new music, clearly a lotta people do. i havent seen many artists hold both the #1 and 2 spot.

yea for mariah to have effectively shown her voice in we belong together, it wouldve had to be slower and not the remix. i dont think the remix was a good idea.

i think that mariah was always r&b. it's just the r&b itself has evolved into a more hip hop type music in recent years as oppose to the more pop/smooth r&b. take whitney for example...she was r&b back in the 80's and then in the late 90's she became more hip hop r &B. of course she failed but still, it shows how she had to evolve with the music.

anyway, mariah sings like noone else. i agree she should have done the orignial version. either way, gotta give her props for having the guts to actually sing the fast paced remix live.

i think so too (about R&B). She is the best selling R&B artist (both male and female) of all time.

yeah true about the R & B

did anyone else hear 50 cents compadre shouting after their performance.. i won't say what it was because i will just get *************** out, but i think it was directed at fat joe.

that girl that presented the gorrilas their award was pretty dumb..they edited out the part where she continues to tell the audience that they arn't here even though it is pretty obvious when they dont come up to accept an award

and dont get me started on the comedian...i fast-fowarded through that part...i get embarassed for them

haha. i know what you mean about the comedian and feeling embarrased. my teeth were cringing for him. i was like "run off the stage man".

and that girl that presented the gorillaz's award was paulina rubio, a mexican pop start. and yes she is extremely dumb. she's drunk or high 99% of the time, not including when she's sleeping.

i didn't hear what was said at the end of 50 cents performance.

i still say they should get dave chappelle to host next year. or margaret cho. or both. that would be genius.

and a side note...i think whitney should put down the crack, leave bobby, and re solidify her career. god, she was sooo incredible. after the duo she did with mariah carey for "prince of egypt", she totally went crashed. shame. i remember when i was five and knew every single song on "the bodyguard" soundtrack. whitney, mariah, tlc, and selena were the best female artists for me as i grew up. selena got shot in 95, whitney became a crackhead after 96, mariah's career started to suffer, and then left eye died in a car accident. though selena and tlc will never be replace, at least whitney and mariah can still come back, which is luckily what ms. carey is doing.

now all we need is whitney stop the drugs and alcohol, get some mental help, eat some food, and drink some honey, and she could be on top again. well probably not, but damn that would be nice.

Ya canty beat the 1999 VMa's

You do know that Mariah carey is HALF BLACK right. So she is not "trying to be black" and she has pretty much always sang R&B. And she sings R&B well, so lets not bash her okay.

I thought she was part Venezuelan and irish.

Venezuelans are pretty light skinned, just like northern brazil and Columbia.

But, whatever it doesant matter to me.

there are A LOT of "black" venezuelans. there are also "black" cubans, dominicans, puerto ricans, and panamanians. a lot more than anyone would think, trust me.

anyway, i believe mariah's father is half afro-venezuelan (i think that's the PC term) and half african american, and her mom is just from irish descent, but pretty much just your average white american.

but mariah isn't really in touch with her 1/4 hispanic side or "irish" side that i know of. she's pretty much your typical "mixed" artist that the general public classifies as a light skinned black girl, just like halle berry.

random question, halle berry (or ist barry?) is only half black, yet she is deamed to be the first african american woman to win an oscar for best actress. i remember sitting in on a class at berkeley during a college visit and they were discussion race and mixture and this particular "dilemma" came up. so what happens if angela basset (or some other "full" black actress) wins the next oscar for best actress? technically halle is only half black, so should halle be named the first "mixed" actress, or is it ok for her to still be called the first black actress to win?

for me it's kind of hard to choose one side. denzel was the first black actor to win the oscar in the same category, but he's full black. anyway, just a thought.

denzel was actually the second black actor (first was sydney poitier..spelling not sure). but i think halle berry counts as the first black actress because she looks black.

Black is a term that has nothing to do with ethnicity. I see indians being called black sometimes.

as I see colombians being called white, like my friend ernetti
