Mudd Hall

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, or if this will even get attention. I'm a freshman who just received a single in Mudd residence hall (does this mean Mudd-Blaisdell?). Has anyone lived in Mudd or know about it? What is the social life like, how large are the rooms, is it mostly partiers or studiers, etc.? Any information would be greatly appreciated before move-in day on Aug 25. Thanks in advance.

Well, I won’t be much help, since my daughter is an incoming freshman as well, but her assignment said Blaisdell, so I would guess that’s the other half of Mudd-Blaisdell. It’s a large dorm, so you should have a mix of personalities. I suggested she contact her sponsor for more specific information about the rooms. I see that the beds are supposed to be adjustable, I would like to know what size underbed storage bins to buy that will fit well.

Mudd-Blaisdell is the largest residence halls on campus. It’s also popular because it has AC! [Residence Halls at Pomona College - Pomona College](Residence Life at Pomona College | Pomona College in Claremont, California - Pomona College) Because it’s primarily a freshman hall (upperclassmen tend to live on north campus), it’ll be comprised of sponsor groups. You’ll find that your sponsor group is comprised of folks who will share some interests similar to yours (although they may be a bit esoteric) but that the hall itself will be quite diverse.

As for storage bin size, you can check out #20 on [47 Things Every Parent Should Know - Part 3 - Pomona College](http://www.pomona.edu/parents/47-things/room.aspx).

You can find residence hall maps at [Residence Halls at Pomona College - Pomona College](Residence Life at Pomona College | Pomona College in Claremont, California - Pomona College), and room details at [Room Details - Pomona College](http://www.pomona.edu/administration/campus-life/room-draw/room-details.aspx). (My D graduated in '09, so I learned how to navigate the Pomona website.)

Have fun!

Mudd and Blaisdell are the only AC freshmen dorms, so consider yourself blessed! The rooms are a decent size- not as big as Lyon’s, not as small as some of Blaisdell’s and Harwood’s. The social scene really varies. If you are in the sub-free side of Mudd, it’ll be quiet. If you’re on the sub-op side of Mudd, it’s known for throwing parties.

The lounge and game room for Mudd is really nice, as are the study spaces. It’s also conveniently located right next to the Frank Dining Hall and right across the main street to get to the north part of campus. You’ll also be in close proximity to the Mudd-Harwood courtyard, which is really beautiful, the swimming pools, and the hammocks.

I would highly recommend joining the Class of 2017 Facebook group, where all of your sponsees and sponsors are. Your sponsors will know exactly where you are living at Mudd- the email doesn’t include that detail.

Gibson also has AC!

I lived in Mudd last year. It’s the west half of the Mudd-Blaisdell dorm. For the most part, dorms don’t really have a culture that persists year-to-year. Mudd is pretty centrally located - it’s close to the dining hall, new Mudd-Harwood courtyard (really quite beautiful), pool, and it’s the closest freshman dorm to classes.

Mudd is one of the oldest residence halls on campus (most other dorms are newer or have been renovated more recently), but the rooms are VERY large compared to some of your other options. Blaisdell doubles are basically Mudd singles (which are pretty big). Mudd is mostly freshmen housing, with sophomores either living in the basement (me next year!) or in one hall on the first floor. The rest are freshmen.

There isn’t much to say other than that - you’ll probably have a large room with a walk-in closet (!!). And we’ve been the champions of the freshman cup for the past few years, so don’t let us down next year!

Let me know if you have any other questions.
