Hi Everyone,
It's sort of funny how a few people spoke so highly about their great experiences in a MUDGE Quad and now everyone on this page and the FB14 group wants a Mudge Quad....honestly, they're nice-- but so are all the other dorms and options people face.
Please don't be disappointed if you are not in a quad or not even in Mudge.

Personally-- it is risky enough to hit it off great with a stranger - so a room of 4 strangers is only for people who aren't picky, hung-up and can brush off drama easily -(there's always drama-- girl/boyfriends, messy/smelly people and their belonging etc...Read "The Naked Roommate). And yes, they are strangers- even if you met them on the internet and chatted a few times...

Reality-- 1400-1500 freshman class depending on the acceptance yield.

Roughly 150-200 people accepted ED1 and ED2 plus about 35 Early Action students

Mudge holds 308 -- of which 6-8 are RAs.
The number of Quads in the building are: 8 -- that's right 8 total - so only 32 students are getting into a Mudge quad 32/1400 best chance-- 0.022857143

So at most 32 students are in Quads -- half guys half women? Who knows?

Mudge House To see the floor plan of the dorm.

So absolutely very highly unlikely that any RD will be placed in Mudge, those who submitted their deposit within the first few days perhaps...but don't count on with the rage over Mudge quads...

All the dorms have their pros/cons...
The first thing to decide is whether you want your bathroom down the hall (standard double) or in your room (prime double/triple/quad)...then you can better select a dorm.

If you want a prime-- as a freshman, that limits you to Mudge and Henderson.

And there is NO rush to submit the form..it's not due until May 30--

Is there a way to select Mudge Double without being stuck in the basement…that sounds like no sun and dank musty smells – well just like my basement at home?

… aren’t you a mother? Why are you on the facebook group, haha? And there are 10 RAs in Mudge, + X amount of Mentors.

@CMUGUY No, there’s no way to select Mudge but not the basement. If you’re RD, there’s a chance you’ll get placed there. But honestly the rooms are pretty nice even though there’s not a lot of sunlight and each basement has its own perks (game lounge/laundry room or laundry room/Mudge kitchen) so it’s not too awful. B Basement was one of the closest floors this year, and they’re all super tight friends pretty much.

I just want something with freshman. I’m not picky, I was actually gonna go with e-tower.

Hah, the best one there was the cathedral mansion. Is that for freshman?

“So absolutely very highly unlikely that any RD will be placed in Mudge”

Not true. If an ED student picks three RD students as his roommates they can get a Mudge Quad.

CMU no longer has a bid with cathedral mansions. This coming year you can’t live there anymore in on-campus housing ): My roommate’s still getting a room there though with her design buddies.

dang, that place was so nice on the virtual deal. When I visited I never actually did a dorm tour, wish I had now.

What are “first-year only residence halls”?

[First-Year 2009 Resources](http://www.housing.cmu.edu/firstyear/fyhousing.html) - all the freshman housing areas. Some of them are different than others and have different policies, though.

@ Kate…No I am NOT a member of student FB group-- g-d no! but I check the questions thread…it’s helpful for answering questions parents send my way sometimes by PM here. The upperclassmen offer great advice on all sorts of things-- including housing, classes and timing of things… I also think the CMU Admissions Fan Page is equally helpful-- but I cannot fathom why anyone would share personal information to the extent shared there rather than emailing more privately…FB is generally gossip— didn’t you hear Michelle Obama about this…(smile)

@ Steelers…yes and no
An ED could list 3 RDs…but if the RD admission deposit date is SIGNIFICANTLY towards the end of the pile they absolutely CANNOT bump other EDS or RDs with low dates. Absolutely absolutely positive…

I know a student in the 2013 class from our high school who could not submit the deposit until the very end (they were stuck over whether to stick with the waitlist for MIT and eventually said forget it on April 30 and submitted the deposit to CMU) … and this student had listed to room with an ED from the same high school-- both Morewood (one ended in Morewood the other in Oakland apts)…when they called in July about why they had not been placed together since both requested the other…that was the story-- Housing told them that roommate requests have to have reasonably close proximity in the date of deposit to be placed together. I suppose that is all heresay and it’s just one anecdote…but it’s what it is…but I’ve also heard of Sophomores requesting one another who somehow didn’t get placed together…

I would not put my faith in Mudge Quad for RD-- it’s false hope.

Thanks!

okay, by looking at the map of the school I have, the floor plans [Buildings&Facilities , and the virtual tours Virtual Tours](http://www.housing.cmu.edu/buildings/) from those ^ freshman dorms I’m gonna go with Welch House and London Terrace (though it’s my last choice, it’s off the map in distance). E-tower is still kinda my first, I stayed in it during my last visit, nice enough and all that. But I’m not sure how I feel about community baths. Welch only has primes? That’s freakin’ awesome, only got to share a bath with 3-4 girls.

If you liked Morewood dont’ rule it out…the floors aren’t co-ed – so it’s not the end of the world going down the hall to the bathroom (unless you forgot your key).

Small dorms have some drawbacks-- tight community but you meet many fewer people than in a larger dorm.

You can get a room in Mudge as RD - you just should not bank on the Quad.
