From what I have read, it seems like Mudge is one of the most demanded dorms for incoming freshman. I have heard about the relatively private bathrooms and spacious dorms, but I feel like the distance from the center of campus makes Mudge unattractive. Does the distance on the map seem much great than it actually is?

I am looking between Mudge and Donner. I like Donner mostly because of its location, and because of its relatively spacious rooms. I feel like because of Donner's location, it is much easier to be a social dorm, as kids can more easily come back to their dorm during the day.

I am probably going to do QSSS, which invites its students to room together in Mudge. I like this idea, but again I really don't like the location of Mudge.

Can anyone comment on living at Mudge? Do you feel that the distance makes living there much less attractive? Do most people walk to campus from Mudge? Or bike, long-board, etc? Do you find it to be just as social as the dorms located more on campus, like Donner?
Do you come back during the day at all, or just leave in the mornig, hang out on campus all day, and come back at night?

I really appreciate any advice. Thanks

The distance looks way further than it actually is. Walking from there is about an extra minute from Stever which isn’t even a minute from Morewood. Maybe you won’t want to go to Ginger’s for lunch if you don’t have a morning/afternoon class around that time, but it’s not that big of a deal.

Take a look at the apartment housing like Cathedral Manison, Webster, Shady Oak, etc and see how far away they are. All of us that lived out there walked in every day, and the distance was pretty much a non-issue as long as you were off the meal plan.

Yeah the distance between Mudge and campus is really minor - it’s literally like 4 minutes of walking to the crosswalk, if even that. I lived there for 2 years, it’s pretty awesome. The community in Mudge is a lot closer than other dorms, and the mentor+RA combination is really nice for having upperclassmen on your floor.

Also, if you’re a late Saturday sleeper, I will feel very bad for you if you’re in Donner: the Kiltie bandroom is located right underneath and during the game season, they come out to practice relatively early (10-11am. trust me, that’s very early)
I lived in the Res. on Fifth and it was amazing. (I’d rather walk that extra 5 mins to have my own bathroom, two separate rooms and a kitchen)

Thanks for all the advice. Anyone know anything about QSSS or where they are normally housed within Mudge?

QSSS is in the basement of Mudge (at least this year, tower B basement), which is the only floor that has a lounge. I have a lot of friends in that program, and their floor is pretty close to each other. Something to note, not a lot of communal space on the floors themselves of mudge. I am in Mudge and I’m not close to my floor at all. But, there is a reading room and a piano room that people often go to.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if there are windows in the dorms in the basement, or is it is physically underground?

Thanks

There are half windows in the basement. The floor is mostly but not entirely underground I guess.
