Muhlenberg Acceptance Thread

Hi all!

My dd just got a phone call from her Admissions person that she has been accepted into the class of 2016!

She is VERY VERY excited. She was also accpeted with my Tuition Exchange (I work in a private college) so a happy day for all of us!

I am sure we will all start to hear soon now. She was told she was in the first round of applicants. She applied the beginning of the second week of October.

Congrats to her! How are you planning on celebrating?! :)

Congrats to all of you!

My S is a freshman at Berg and my bff’s D is anxiously awaiting her ED acceptance!

That’s great! I assume she was ED, right?

Congratulations!

Thank you all very much.
Yes, she applied ED. It was the one and only school she applied to…OMG…lol

Thatsmyboy, what state are you from? Is your son happy? Are there things to do on the weekends? Did he attend a small HS? Good luck to your BFF’s dd.

Thank you all and I look forward to seeing this thread growing with my happy acceptance posts.

I’m not Thatsmyboy but since my daughter is a freshman there as well I may be able to answer your questions.

My daughter is very happy at Muhlenberg (knock wood). Freshman year is a huge transition but Muhlenberg as an institution does a lot to make it easier for the kids. She’s found a lot of great friends, gotten involved in activities and enjoyed her classes.

There are a lot of weekend activities. Because there are so many talented kids into music and theater there are performances of some sort many (every?) weekends, ranging from student rock bands to Rocky Horror Picture Show to the main stage musical. There is a mall not too far away and I think the campus runs a shuttle. There is a dance club in Allentown that has regular nights for the kids and that is very popular. She’s been into Philly twice and NYC once. I thought she would have gone into one of the cities more often but she generally wants to stick around campus on the weekends. I was worried she would find Allentown too small and the campus too slow but so far that is not the case. We’ll see how that goes for 4 years but for the moment she never seems to lack things to do.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much leftofpisa! I’m slightly worried about the size too but it doesn’t seem to be an issue for my dd so that is what is important. My daughter visited 3 times and the last time she shadowed a bio major (her major also) and came home and said that the students really seemed so happy and everyone was so nice. It was so reassuring as a parent to hear that since it is a BIG step for my dh and me to have our oldest moving out of the house the end of the summer.

I’m sure my dd will find a way to get to the city, she goes on occassion now taking the Express Bus in but not knowing when and how until after it actually happens will be a big change for my dh and me LOL

I’m off to purchase Muhlenberg sweats and a car sticker to add to her Christmas presents and she already has the hoodie LOL

Have a very happy Thanksgiving and please anything you think you need to tell me or any tips, I’m happy to hear.

Enjoy your children home this weekend!

Congratulations to those accepted for the class of 2016… Don’t worry about the size… After 1 1/2 years at Mberg, my D found time to attend her first theater event. She’s been fully booked with activities and rarely goes off campus (though travels a lot for sports)…

When you bring your daughter or son to orientation next year, you will share the excitement, breath a sigh of relief, and probably shed a few tears.

As a parent, it’s nice to visit on a fall weekend, get a 7th row seat among a thousand other fans to watch a football or basketball game, then be greeted by a professor, dean or admissions counselor who helped make your daughter’s or son’s transition to Muhlenberg a successful one. It will be a great 4 years.

Thank you worldspirit. That is wonderful to hear.
The three times my dd visited it has been rainy, stormy or misty. Not one nice sunny day so I know when she finally gets back to campus for an Admitted Student Day or something of the sort, if the weather is nice, it will be so wonderful for her to experience Muhlenberg with nice weather LOL

I am restraining myself and waiting for the actual package to come with all the information but want to call and ask Financial Aid if I can apply smaller scholarships towards the Tuition Exchange she will be receiving (some schools you can and some you can’t) and find out exactly what our next steps are, FASFA, loans, etc.??? I have no clue but do you think I should just wait for a while or call when she gets the envelope.

How long from the phone call to getting the actual paperwork from the school?

Also, when you had freshman move in day/orientation, did you spend the full Friday-Sunday or did you go home after Saturday? We live 90 minutes away so we won’t be sleeping over but we do have a graduation trip planned for my son (he is graduating 8th grade this year…yes, 2 graduations) and we planned on going the Sunday before school starts at Muhlenberg for Fall 2012. Are the parents still around that Sunday or do they leave the kids to get to know each other without the parents around. I just want to know if I need to reschedule our trip and leave on Monday with my husband and son.

SOO happy for my dd. She was asleep by 9:30 pm last night. I think the phone call took away a lot of the stress and anticipation she had. She told us it was a great weight lifted off her shoulders. Go Mules!

lovestotravel- I answered your PM, but for others… you drop off your child on Friday morning and you are gone by 12:30- 1:00 the same day!

They have orientation activities all weekend for the kids to get to know each other, the campus etc.
As LeftofPisa can attest… freshman orientation this year was unique in that the day after we left our kids Hurricane Irene blew through Allentown leaving the campus with out power for awhile. The school kept in email contact with the parents to assure us that all was fine ( and it was!).

Congratulations to your D, lovestotravel!! My D is in NYC right now intensely rehearsing for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade…and missed a call from the admissions person who interviewed her!!! AHHHHHHH! A call is a good sign, I would think???

YESSS! My D has been accepted into the class of 2016, Muhlenberg College! She doesn’t know yet but she will be over the moon! I am crying…happy and RELIEVED! See you in a few months, lovestotravel! I’d PM you but have no idea how…

kaleysmom-CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Go Us! LOL
Let me know when you talk to your daughter!
I’ll try to figure out how to PM and see if I can do now!

lovestotravel, my D is so thrilled!!! Very exciting to have the process over and dome with. I was nervous that the strategy of only filing one ED app would backfire and make for a very awful December…bu thankfully it all worked well.

ooh Kaleysmom- YEAH!!!

I am so proud of her ( yeah you know me… think about it…lol) so happy we can be Muhlenmoms together!!!

Have a great time tomorrow at the parade… stay warm and dry…we will be watching from home so proud of all the kids

To “Kaleysmom”- Thanks so much for the yummy chocolate! So unneccessary but yummy non-the-less. So glad to have her here. Special for the both of them NOW THAT THEYRE GOING TO COLLEGE TOGETHER!!! Ahhhh! So relieved! And to my BFF “thats my boy” I love you! We will always be in the audience together!

SDMMM forever!

Hahhhh! I knew that was YOU, thatsmyboy!!! Looking forward to four more years in the audience together!!!

I am sure you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with our children (all girls?) being accepted to Muhlenberg!

Thank you thatsmyboy for the Orientation information! We will drop off on Friday and be off to Disney on Sunday with my son for his 8th grade graduation present.

She got the “official” letter in the mail on Friday. I loved the “You’re In” on the front of the envelope :)

Have a great week!

WOW! Over 1,300 views but just the few of us posting.

Got the envelope today giving us the information to go online for Financial Aid, but we knew she was in with the Tuition Exchange but SO nice to see!!!

Sent in the deposit last week so now ALL the paperwork needs to be filled out.
WAY too many forms but I know we are not alone.

I’m sure we will all be back with questions and hopefully those that have kids at 'Berg will be able to help us along with the process.

Looking forward to seeing more acceptances from others. Let’s see who the first male will be since right now just females, which are the majority at Muhlenberg.
