Congratulations to mamamia1007's D 's acceptance to Hartt!! That definitely takes the sting out of waiting!;) My D applied there too but so far we haven't heard. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Muhlenberg for your D.

Still nothing! Blah.

Thanks Sashusmom.... Hartt is not really where I'd like to see her go because it is a conservatory... I was hoping she would get a more well rounded education. That's why we really like Muhlenberg... Hopefully this week we will hear. This waiting is a killer!!!

Sonlovesmt--I missed your post!!! Congrats to your S!;)

Received my acceptance last week!! Did anyone hear, in their acceptance letter, about financial aid/scholarships? I auditioned (although of course it is not required) and Mr. Richter seemed very interested... I may be being a little presumptuous, but money is definitely a concern in my family.

adh6r---When we called and asked about the finaid package they said we didn't send in our W2's so my daughter's file was incomplete. When I asked about merit aid they said nothing would be reviewed until we sent in the W2's or took her off of need based and strictly went for merit based. They said that our FAFSA still made her elgible for loans and since we knew we wouldn't qualify for strict need-based we had them change her status. They said it would take a couple of days and they would be mailing out her finaid offer this week. I spoke with Sue in the finaid office who was extremely nice and helpful. You should call and make sure they have your file complete.
Hope this helps...

We received a notification of academic scholarship yesterday. My H called today to see about talent,(my D also auditioned for dance and theatre) and was informed that the letter received with academic scholarship was just a notice- the complete financial aid package will go out next week.
Is anyone going to accepted students day? April 18th-Saturday.

For any accepted students planning on attending the Through the Red Doors - Accepted Students Day, my D is a campus delegate who will be meeting and greeting that day. Feel free to email me and I will tell you her name, as I believe that everyone is given name tags. She will be thrilled to tell you about her freshman year at the 'Berg.

And… For those interested, the one-act play that she is directing (as a freshman) is being performed that day as well, at 5 pm (I think), in the Red Door, which is downstairs in the student union building, called Seegers. Admission is free, and the performance will be under an hour. She also directed a one-act play in the fall of her freshman year. I will of course be there too, to see the play, so feel free to ask me Qs as well. :-)

CORRECTION –
If anyone is going to Accepted Students Day next weekend and wishes to see my D’s play as an example of what a Muhlenberg freshman is able to do (most of her cast are also freshmen, but not all), it will be performed at 4:30 on Saturday, not at 5:00 as I had previously reported. It will still be held in the Red Door Cafe, downstairs in Seegers.

My D is a prospective student and we will all be there on Saturday to see the show. Has your D done any musicals this year as a performer? Is your daughter thinking of double majoring by any chance? (My D is very interested in double majoring in musical theater and something else).

idk, thanks so much!
I sent you a pm in response, as I prefer not to post details in a public forum.

Just a little note. My daughter received the nicest letter from an upperclassman welcoming her to Muhlenberg and offering to answer any questions to help her make her final decision. It was handwritten and the envelope was hand addressed on a Muhlenberg note card. Although she has decided on another program (really wanted the F in BFA) I thought it was one of the nicest things she has received from any school. What a classy school it must be!

At the end of the day, my daughter declined Muhlenberg, leaving me a bit wistful. This is a wonderful college community with a broad based performing arts curriculum in theater, voice and dance.

Along the route, while deciding she met twice with Charlie Richter, a class act himself, who was both encouraging and respectful of her need for the “F” in between the B and the A.

She was wowed while sitting in on an honors Psychology seminar called “The Psychology of Superstition”, where the professor called on her and brought her into the discussion. (She was quite impressed with that)

They offered her the Dana Scholars Program, a prestigious academic opportunity for higher level academics and internships in one’s field of study.

Muhlenberg is not a “fall back” school for talented kids, or one to take lightly. They have alumni in tours, Mr. Richter sends students to casting directors for NYC auditons, and students still have the opportunity for double majors in other fields of interest.

Congratulations to all who were admitted and plan to attend in the Fall.

can you double major in something like education, or english along with the theatre major?

mamalu you said : <<along the=“” route,=“” while=“” deciding=“” she=“” met=“” twice=“” with=“” charlie=“” richter,=“” a=“” class=“” act=“” himself,=“” who=“” was=“” both=“” encouraging=“” and=“” respectful=“” of=“” her=“” need=“” for=“” “f”=“” in=“” between=“” b=“” a.=“”>></along>

I am so glad to hear that Charlie was encouraging about the BFA route. When he met with my daughter (last year, several times, when she was going through the college audition process) he was wonderful to her, but definitely made it clear he was not a fan (not at ALL!) of BFA programs. He was extremely blunt about his objections to BFAs and his strong belief that BA programs produce better, more educated actors.

“can you double major in something like education, or english along with the theatre major?”

of course! In addition to being a theatre major, I’m also in the elementary education program. Just to warn you, it’s a LOT of work (and education isn’t technically a major, it’s a certification program) so if you’re at all interested, you need to let them know that during June advising.
Also I have a couple friends who are theatre/english double majors. That seems to be fairly popular. they all like the english program.

thank you so much!

NMR… It was pretty clear that Mr. Richter is a fan of his program and of Muhlenberg College. But willing to discuss the merits of both BA’s and BFA’s. After all he has a BFA from Syracuse.

He did engage my d in conversation about her other academic interests, which only a few other adjudicators did. We both appreciated that he safely assumed that there was more to her than singing, dancing and acting.

Interestingly, one of these was her monologue adjudicator at NYU, who sat down and engaged with her about her other interests.

Went to see my D in 2 productions in 2 days. I was so impressed with the quality, particularly because one was completely student run. It was Godspell which I have seen on numerous occasions and I actually liked what this director did with the material the most!!! The other production was Children’s theatre and the principal let my husband and myself attend the performances. I was impressed with the way the students and actors got to interact, and I heard from teachers from the first show that the play (about bullying) had a great impact on the little ones. It provoked much discussion. To see the community tie-in was truely wonderful.

On another note, with the trees in bloom and an enormous amount of blooming dogwood (my favorite tree) the campus couldn’t have been more lovely! I felt like I was in fairly land!

Thanks

Just wanted to send a note of thanks to all here on CC who helped w/ info and communication for my daughter, especially snoggie, teriwitt, and brownsugar106 and their kids. She got word this morning that she was accepted as a transfer w/ a theatre scholarship, paperwork on the way. So now we breathe a great sigh of relief. She’s our second child choosing to major in theatre. #3 seems headed in the same direction, so looks like I’ll be around here for a while. Best wishes to all still waiting to hear!
